Arguably one of the best zombie games, Dead Rising was originally released in 2006. It has been long overdue for an overhaul, and fans of the original game finally got it with Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster. Fans of the original Dead Rising will experience new graphics not only when it comes to characters and environments, but also when it comes to weapons as they play the game as Frank West.
Weapons are a must in this action-packed zombie game, but not all weapons will be equally effective. Some weapons have limited durability and lower damage. Other weapons will be stronger with better damage, but those may have scarce ammunition. To overcome zombie hordes and hostile humans, players must find the best weapons they can. Here are 10 weapons players should look out for to improve their chances of survival in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster.
Plow Through Zombie Hordes
Surprised to see something as simple as a shopping cart on a list of the best weapons in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster? Don’t be. Shopping carts can be quite powerful at mowing down several zombies at once. Think about it. You start off in a shopping mall where there are plenty of carts available. You’ll also likely be surrounded by zombies at some point in the game. Grab one of these and start pushing. The shopping cart will gain momentum and plow down any undead in its path.
Be on the lookout for a shopping cart loaded with actual weapons. Take the weapons from this cart, and you’ll be good to go for a while.
The only caveat is that the shopping cart needs a clear path to be effective. Dead corpses will slow the cart down, and if you don’t have access to another weapon, that could be a problem. If the cart gets stuck on corpses or anything else that might be in the way, zombies can easily surround and overpower you. Still, the shopping cart is something that can help you out in a pickle, especially if that pickle is you stuck in a crowd of zombies.
9 Mannequin Torso
Beat Zombies To Death With This Prop
Starting out in the shopping mall, you’ll likely see mannequins all around you. Getting your hands on a mannequin isn’t too hard. Just exit the Security Room, where you start initially, and take the elevator down to find mannequins scattered around. It’s a seemingly innocent prop, usually used to show off trendy clothes. However, in a zombie apocalypse, anything can become a weapon. The nice thing about the mannequin is that it’s found early on, so it’s a good weapon to use right off the bat.
As nice as the mannequin itself is, it becomes even better once it breaks into the mannequin’s torso. The mannequin doesn’t have the greatest durability, so after some use, expect it to break into several pieces. Pick up the torso and start beating the undead, ending their existence in just one hit. Be careful, though. It’s a melee weapon, meaning close combat, which can end with Frank getting scratched or bitten.
8 Katana
Slash Through Several Zombies
As with many post-apocalyptic games, you’ll be able to get your hands on a katana, a long sword that does significant damage and is great at taking down multiple zombies at once. Frank can carry multiple katanas at once, so when one breaks, Frank has another to whip out. You can find these swords in a few different places: Ripper’s Blades, Ned’s Knicknackery, and the Colombian Roastmasters.
While you’re at Colombian Roastmasters, stock up on orange juice, one of the better healing items in the game. When you’re in a pinch, orange juice will keep Frank going.
Colombian Roastmasters will likely be one of the first places to explore. Once you’ve left the Warehouse near the Security Room, turn right and head upstairs. Go forward to eventually come across Colombian Roastmasters. Find the refrigerator system with orange juice inside. The katana will be on top of an orange awning nearby, as per the video from Postmode.
The katana does quite a bit of damage, not just to zombies but to psychopathic humans, too, so it’s worth picking up. Plus, if the katana breaks, another will be spawned at the same location in Colombian Roastmasters. It’s definitely a good early-game weapon.
7 Small Chainsaw
Chop Zombies Into Pieces In No Time
There are two chainsaws in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster. The small chainsaw is the first of the two. Though not as powerful as the second chainsaw, the small chainsaw is a nice pickup because Frank can carry multiple at a time.
Unfortunately, there are some drawbacks. For example, the small chainsaw can’t be swung while running. Despite that, it has a decent lifespan and can cut through zombie hordes quickly. The small chainsaw is another good early-game weapon, available on the first day. As demonstrated by Horizon Gaming, all you have to do is beat Adam the Clown to unlock it.

Location |
Wonderland Plaza; Spaceship Rollercoaster |
Objective |
Beat Adam the Clown |
Adam the Clown is what’s known as a psychopath – a hostile human who will attack and kill other survivors. Adam the Clown, who has been updated from the original game, is the first of many psychopaths Frank will encounter in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster and is found at the spaceship rollercoaster in Wonderland Plaza. Once beaten, you’ll receive the small chainsaw as a reward.
6 Submachine Gun
Shoot Continuous Fire Through Zombie Hordes
Submachine Guns are typically my favorite gun in any type of shooting game, and it’s the same for Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster. These powerful guns have a high rate of fire and manageable recoil and are great for close-range gun combat. The downside here is that the gun doesn’t have the best accuracy due to its continuous fire, so it isn’t the best choice when it comes to ranged combat and high damage. Still, it’s a gun worth having and one I’ve used to take down zombie hordes.
The submachine gun is available early but does require some effort to obtain. The first place to find a submachine gun is at Paradise Plaza. Just like in Postmode’s video above, head up the staircase that leads to the second floor of Paradise Plaza. Halfway up, there will be an awning to the right. Climb onto the railing and jump over to the awning. Move along the awning, and you’ll find a submachine gun at the end, above the Shoekin’s store.
5 Sniper Rifle
Launch Attacks From Far Away
If you’re a fan of ranged attacks, there’s nothing quite like the sniper rifle. The sniper rifle is nice to have in certain situations, like taking on the Prisoners. Unfortunately, getting your hands on the sniper rifle isn’t as easy as some other weapons on this list. There are two places where you can get sniper rifles from early on. The first is at the Huntin’ Shack in the North Plaza. The second is after beating the Hall Family at Entrance Plaza on Day 2. If you’re going to the Huntin’ Shack, be warned: on Day 1, you’ll encounter the owner, Cletus, who is now a psychopath. On Day 2, you’ll encounter other survivors.
The survivors in Huntin’ Shack will shoot at you. Leave and come back, and they will no longer shoot. Show them a photo of the Security Room’s air duct to get them to follow you.
The sniper rifle will serve you well, especially if you can get yourself to higher ground. When paired with a shotgun, the sniper rifle is one of the best ranged weapons to have in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster. Take high ground, which is typically safer, and shoot as many of your enemies as you can with the sniper rifle. Finish the rest off with the shotgun.
4 Shotgun
Take Down Zombies, Spec Ops Officers, And More
As mentioned above, the shotgun is a great accessory to the sniper rifle. However, it’s also a good standalone gun. The shotgun sprays bullets, making it easy to take out several zombies at once. Being small and lightweight means that you can carry more than one shotgun at a time, too, so if one quits working, just pull out another and continue spraying.
Like with the sniper rifle, the shotgun can easily be found within the Hunting Shack. It’s constantly respawning there, so you can pick up several. Not only are shotguns great at killing zombies, but they also do well against Spec Ops Officers, Prisoners, and Psychopaths, so having a few in your pocket is recommended.
3 Chainsaw
Dismember Zombies and Psychopaths
The chainsaw is powerful, more so than the small chainsaw. With such significant power comes a few disadvantages. Unfortunately, unlike the small chainsaw, the normal-sized one won’t fit in your pocket. You’ll also drop it pretty easily, and it takes forever to actually start up, which means you can’t use it as quickly as the smaller variant. However, unlike the smaller version, the chainsaw can be used while running.
With one swing of the chainsaw, Frank can immediately take down a zombie. And if it isn’t knocked out of Frank’s hands, you can run through a horde and slaughter several at a time. You can find the chainsaw in two locations in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster: McHandy’s Hardware in Al Fresca Plaza and Crislip’s Home Saloon in the North Plaza.
You can also find a sledgehammer and sickle in McHandy’s Hardware.
In McHandy’s Hardware, there will be five chainsaws scattered on the floor, but you can only carry one at a time. Unfortunately, the chainsaw will run out of gasoline rather quickly, but you can come back here to pick another up when that happens. Since it has limitations, avoid using the chainsaw just to take down a single zombie. It’s best used when taking down several in a row.
2 Laser Sword
Unlock This Powerful Sword In Infinity Mode
If you enjoy melee combat and want the strongest melee weapon in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, then the laser sword is a must-have for slicing through zombie hordes. Unfortunately, unlocking the laser sword isn’t an easy feat. In fact, it’s one of the hardest weapons to unlock, but it’s worth the adventure. To unlock this powerful sword, you’ll need to play Infinity Mode and survive for five days, or a total of 10 in-game hours. Once unlocked, the laser sword can be picked up in the Security Room.

Location |
Unlocked in Infinity Mode; Found in Security Room |
Objective |
Survive five days in Infinity Mode |
Even though it’s a powerhouse melee weapon, the laser sword isn’t without its faults. It breaks easily and requires close-range combat. Still, the laser sword can deal significant damage and take down zombies with a single swipe. Plus, it’s pretty effective against hostiles, too, as long as they aren’t using ranged weapons on you.
1 Real Mega Blaster
Kill 53,594 Zombies To Unlock The Best Gun
The real mega-blaster is the final and best weapon in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster. Like the laser sword, this ranged weapon can be difficult to unlock. While you won’t have to dive into Infinity Mode to get this weapon, you will have to kill 53,594 zombies in a single run.
To make it easier, use a vehicle and take to the maintenance tunnels to plow down zombies.
Once unlocked, the real mega blaster can be picked up in the Security Room. It’s a great weapon to take out the undead, but also to take down Psychopaths with a handful of shots. So, even though it might be time-consuming to unlock, it’s well worth the effort and will make unlocking all of the Dead Rising endings easier.

Whether you enjoy melee weapons like the katana or chainsaw or prefer ranged weapons like the submachine gun or shotgun, this list has something for everyone. Each weapon is designed for unique play styles. With the right choice, you’ll be ready to take down any zombies or psychopaths you encounter in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster.
