With a decade of content and more still being released, The Sims 4 isn’t short on features. Because it’s so bloated with content when every pack is purchased and installed, it’s easy to miss features if they aren’t being searched out specifically. Since some of those easy-to-miss features can be fun or funny, it’s worth digging into the game and finding them.
Features that are the easiest to miss tend to be those that are limited to unique circumstances. In effect, that usually means that they require specific interactions with certain characters. However, there are also features that cause unusual moodlets or effects that are hidden in actions added by kits, or other smaller content packs.
10 Sims Can Be Cursed By A Sweater
A Super Itchy One
This feature is only available if the Nifty Knitting Stuff Pack is installed, and that’s because it requires Sims to be able to craft and gift knitted items. Knitted items can be sold, donated, or gifted, and Sims, with higher levels of knitting skill, can create more objects. While it can be a nice way to improve relationships with other Sims or to earn some extra money, it’s also possible to ruin a Sim’s day by gifting them a sweater.
This sweater can give Sims a negative moodlet, indicating that they’re incredibly itchy. It also has the chance to make every romantic interaction fail for the Sim wearing it, which is what makes it a cursed item.
One item that Sims can knit is the Forbidden Sweater, and it turns out that the name is well-earned. This sweater can give Sims a negative moodlet, indicating that they’re incredibly itchy. It also has the chance to make every romantic interaction fail for the Sim wearing it, which is what makes it a cursed item.
9 Dates Can Be Done On Home Lots
The Only Way To Have Some Privacy
Choosing the home lot as the location for dates was an option in The Sims 2, but it didn’t feel like a choice in The Sims 4. The way that the date options pop up makes it seem like a community lot has to be chosen as the location, but that’s not true. It’s entirely possible to have Sims stay home for their date, and it’s less of a headache to handle that way.
This leads to a lot of frustration because it becomes tough to raise the relationship between the dating Sims.
The problem with dates on community lots in The Sims 4 is that every Sim on that lot feels the need to join the date. This leads to a lot of frustration because it becomes tough to raise the relationship between the dating Sims. It also doesn’t help that some Sims are against displays of affection, and get angry at the Sims on their date. A date at home is way easier to handle.
8 Pets Don’t Need A Vet Visit To Feel Better
Having A Treat Can Be The Best Medicine
Just like Sims, pets can get sick in The Sims 4. Usually, this would mean that they need to go to the vet and be treated, but like Sims are able to purchase human medicine, they can also keep Wellness Treats on hand and ready to give to their furry friends when illness strikes. This way, pets can receive immediate treatment and start feeling better without a trip to the vet.
While Sims can buy their own medicine using a computer and get it delivered in no time, the process is a bit different for pets. Instead of using the computer, they’ll want to pick up treats when at the vet by stopping at the kiosk located there. They’ll stay edible while stored in inventories, so it doesn’t hurt to keep stocked up on Wellness Treats.
7 The Book Of Life Is A Cheat Without Cheating
By Refilling Needs Back To 100%
It’s easy enough to refill Needs that are low with aspiration points used to purchase potions that refill the meters when consumed. However, that’s far from the only way to boost a Sim’s meters, even without using cheats. One option is as easy as reading a book, but getting the book is a bit harder, and it’ll require time to level the writing skill and write the book.
First, this requires a Sim with Level 10 Writing, and they need to write a book for another Sim, with that other Sim being the one who will benefit from it. Specifically, they need to write the Book of Life. Once the book is finished and given to the intended Sim, Sims’ Needs will refill to 100% when they read the book. It’s a great option for players who don’t want to use cheats but need a bit of help with Needs at times.
6 Animals Can Be Cleaned With Magic
The Cleaning Spell Is A Time-Saving Cheat
This tip combines features from Realm of Magic and Cottage Living to create a time-saving cheat when taking care of animals. One spell that spellcasters can learn is a cleaning spell, which is useful in general for daily living in The Sims. It’s also cheaper than a maid for keeping a lot tidy and easier than dealing with Sims being upset about a messy environment but unwilling to clean it by hand.
Not only is this useful for saving time and taking care of animals, it’s rather amusing that it’s an option at all.
With the Cottage Living additions, spellcasters can find another use for that cleaning spell. They can use it to clean animals, such as cows and chickens, as well as clean their environment. Not only is this useful for saving time and taking care of animals, it’s rather amusing that it’s an option at all. However, it seems to go largely unnoticed since it requires two packs and a spellcaster to take care of a cottage.
5 Sims Can Have A Grilled Cheese Aspiration
Eat A Bunch Of Grilled Cheese In A Row To Activate It
Aspirations are large goals that Sims work towards by completing multiple milestones that are related to the theme of the aspiration. For example, a Sim with an aspiration in the popular category wants to have a certain number of friends to mark off a milestone. As expected, the milestones of the grilled cheese aspiration all revolve around eating and cooking grilled cheese.
Since this aspiration isn’t on the standard menu when creating a Sim or changing aspirations in-game, it’s easy not to know it exists. However, as it was also present in The Sims 2, it’s one of the more popular hidden features in The Sims 4. Luckily, activating this aspiration is actually rather easy. All a Sim needs to do is eat a bunch of grilled cheese in a row, and the option to change to the grilled cheese aspiration comes up.
Automatically Order Food Or Hire A Maid To Clean the House
The City Living pack includes two pieces of technology that can be befriended by Sims: Lin-Z and Potty Mouth 2.0. While it might seem strange to have Sims work on improving their friendship with pieces of technology, it pays off. However, Lin-Z is worth the effort more than Potty Mouth, because the features that it offers to friends are more useful.
With high enough friendship, Lin-Z orders food for the Sims in the household automatically or it’ll hire a maid to clean the house without being asked. Meanwhile, Potty Mouth 2.0’s extra features for friends include letting a Sim watch TV or increasing their hygiene while they use it. Considering that these are household objects, it’s easy to miss the extra features they offer to friends because most objects in The Sims can be befriended.
3 Sims Can Be Resurrected Without The Grim Reaper
Book Of Life Makes Justice To It’s Name
When a Sim dies, surviving Sims can plead with the Grim Reaper to spare them, but it doesn’t always work. However, Sims can take this matter into their own hands as long as they do a couple of tasks before the Sim they want to keep alive dies. This includes reaching Level 10 Writing and completing the Bestselling Author career options.
After fulfilling those requirements, the Sim can write a book about another living Sim, which is the same book that the Sim can read to fill all their Needs. It turns out that the Book of Life has another use that’s more fitting for its name, and one that’s written about a Sim that later dies can then be used to resurrect that Sim. This is more convenient and has a higher success rate than bargaining with the Grim Reaper, so having a writer in each Sim household is a pretty good idea.
2 Clones Let Sims Stay Home From Work
Using Tech Or Magic To Create Clones
Once a Sim reaches around Level 8 in the Science career path, they’re able to use a cloning machine to clone themselves. Of course, the benefits of having clones include better housekeeping, more hands to take care of kids, and the option to send the clone to work so the real version can stay home. However, a career in science isn’t the only way to create clones in The Sims 4.
Spellcasters are able to clone themselves using magic instead of a machine, and the results are the same with either method. In both cases, it’s possible that the clone will be an evil clone rather than a normal clone, as in a copy of the Sim, but with the Evil Trait added to them. While that’s a fun side effect, it might also cause a fair bit of chaos in the household.
1 The Tragic Clown Comes To Life
By Interacting With The Tragic Clown Painting
The tragic clown has been part of the series since the first game, but his inclusion in The Sims 4 could take a bit of digging to find. While the clown has a chance to appear in the world at random, a Sim can make him appear on the current lot by interacting with the Tragic Clown Painting. If the clown is summoned this way, he can’t be asked to leave, and he stays on the lot for 24 hours.
There are a few interactions possible with the clown while he’s on the lot, and he can even be added to the household. However, adding him to the household takes away his Tragic Clown title, but he keeps the outfit and has a moodlet that essentially keeps him in the sad role he arrived in. If a Sim decides they want the clown to leave early, they need to sell the painting.
The Sims 4 has grown massive in terms of content during its long lifespan, and that doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon. EA even recently announced another expansion and two more kits being released, which will add even more features to the game. At this rate, it seems like there will always be secrets and hidden features to find in The Sims 4.
