ABC has officially granted early renewals to two of its most popular shows, which will both wrap up their current seasons next month. These newly-renewed shows will be part of the network’s 2026-2027 broadcast season, along with previously announced new seasons of Grey’s Anatomy, 9-1-1, 9-1-1: Nashville, High Potential, and Abbott Elementary.

According to Variety, The Rookie has been renewed for its ninth season, while Will Trent will be returning for a fifth season. These popular police procedural dramas will both conclude their respective 18-episode seasons during the first week of May.
The Rookie is created and executive-produced by Alexi Hawley. It stars Nathan Fillion as John Nolan, the oldest rookie in the LAPD. He must use his life experience, determination, and sense of humor to keep up with co-workers 20 years his junior. Additional cast members include Mekia Cox as Nyla Harper, Alyssa Diaz as Angela Lopez, Richard T. Jones as Sergeant Wade Grey, Melissa O’Neil as Lucy Chen, Eric Winter as Tim Bradford, Jenna Dewan as Bailey Nune, Shawn Ashmore as Wesley Evers, and Lisseth Chavez as Celina Juarez.
Will Trent stars Ramón Rodríguez as he plays the titular role of Special Agent Will Trent of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. He uses his unique point of view in his pursuit of justice and has the highest clearance rate at the GBI. The cast also includes Erika Christensen as Angie Polaski, Iantha Richardson as Faith Mitchell, Jake McLaughlin as Michael Ormewood, and Sonja Sohn as Amanda Wagner.
