The 2023 BET Awards, aka culture’s biggest night, just honored a flood of heavyweight artists and rising newcomers. Winners at Los Angeles’s Microsoft Theater on Sunday, June 25 included Latto, Beyoncé, Coco Jones, and more. The ceremony also honored Busta Rhymes with the lifetime achievement award.
BET released the full list of nominees back on June 8, with Drake leading the bunch with seven total nominations, including album of the year and best male hip-hop artist. Trailing behind him were nominees like 21 Savage, Lizzo, Beyoncé, SZA, Chris Brown, GloRilla (who scored double nominations in the same category for best collaboration), and many more.
Beyond handing out wins, the 2023 BET Awards was also especially exciting event as they honored hip-hop’s highly anticipated 50th anniversary with a telecast of performers throughout the night. Among those who hit the stage for the hip-hop tribute were Remy Ma, Trina, Ja Rule, Fat Joe, MC Lyte, E-40, Chief Keef, Tyga, and a dozen more. Solo performers at the award show this year included GloRilla, Lil Uzi Vert, and Doechii.
