An R-rated action film that experienced a weak theatrical run has become a huge streaming success upon finding a new audience. Thanks to strong viewership, the sequel to 2022’s critically acclaimed Sisu, the latter of which had a stronger box office performance at the time of its theatrical release, has become one of the most-watched movies on HBO Max. Moreover, as a result of its robust viewership, the film has managed to rank pretty high on streaming analytics charts.
Sony’s Sisu: Road to Revenge is a global hit on HBO Max
As of March 2, 2026, Sisu: Road to Revenge is the #2 movie in the top 10 movies list on HBO Max globally, according to data shared by FlixPatrol. The film is thus outclassed by the Scarlett Johansson-led Jurassic World: Rebirth, which maintains its #1 spot.
However, the film surpasses the other films in the list: The Mummy (#3), You’re Cordially Invited (#4), The Mummy Returns (#5), Not Another Teen Movie (#6), Locke (#7), Night Swim (#8), Tornado (#9), and 47 Ronin (#10).
Written and directed by the previous film’s director, Jalmari Helander, the story follows the returning protagonist, Aatami Korpi (Jorma Tommila). He returns to his old family house to dismantle it, intending to rebuild it somewhere safe in their honor. However, Korpi crosses paths with his family’s killer, dead set on tying up loose ends by killing the former.
Following its theatrical release, Sisu: Road to Revenge grossed an estimated $9.8 million at the global box office. This is considerably lower than the box office gross of its predecessor, Sisu, which is an estimated $14.3 million.
Despite its weaker box office run, the film, like the previous one, garnered positive reviews from critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, Road to Revenge boasts an impressive 94% certified fresh critical score, the same as the original. However, the audience score of the former is lower than that of the latter by one.
Meanwhile, on Metacritic, Road to Revenge boasts a healthy Metascore of 76 and a user score of 6.6. The former is higher than the Metascore of the previous film by 6.
