There exist quite a few fantasy series that can hook their viewers from the very first episode, and then there are others that use their first season as a lure before tightening their grip with the seasons that come after. Shows that level up as they go—raising stakes, expanding worlds, and sharpening arcs—are often some of the best bingeing experiences a viewer can ever receive.

Shows like Loki, which initially begin as a time-bending caper and blossom into a cosmic character evolutionary story, and Avatar: The Last Airbender, which transforms from a playful elemental quest into a layered fantasy epic, are just a few on this list that build momentum consistently with every new installment. Featured here are series that continuously burn brighter with each episode, gifting audiences an ever-evolving fantasy series that is best for a snack-filled ultimate binge.

Loki may be only two seasons long, but it is definitely a fantasy series worth gushing about. The critically acclaimed Marvel series follows the adventures of the Norse God of Mischief, Loki Laufeyson (Tom Hiddleston), after he steals the Tesseract and escapes custody, only to be captured once more by the Time Variance Authority.

While Loki does wield some sci-fi elements, the series does a great job of blending in fantasy aspects that definitely lure and hook its viewers. Each season explores the complicated twists of time travel and the story’s expanding mythology. It’s a fantastic showcase of Loki’s evolution and is quite often praised for its creativity. With just two seasons, Loki does what most fantasy series endlessly strive for—being a visually striking, emotionally rich, and narratively complete masterpiece, cementing its place as a binge-worthy fantasy series that only gets better after its first season.

His Dark Materials is one of the most underrated fantasies to hit viewers’ screens and is still often overlooked among bigger names. The BBC/ HBO series, adapted from Philip Pullman’s novels, follows the young and adventurous Lyra Belacqua (Dafne Keen), who lives in a world where each person’s soul has an animal guardian known as a “daemon.” When her journey intertwines with Will Parry (Amir Wilson), a boy from the world of its audience, the two must come together to stop the forces that threaten all the existing worlds.

Amidst a coming-of-age tale, there is a thrilling and magic-filled story that delivers a heart-achingly beautiful love story. Each season is an expansion of an already compelling story, featuring epic cosmic battles, alternate universes, and beings viewers may even find difficult to comprehend. His Dark Materials is a true hidden gem that is both faithful to its source material and fanatically gripping, cementing its place on this list of top-tier binge-worthy fantasies that get better with every season.

This is another underrated fantasy that is worthy of a snack-filled binge-watching experience that only gets better with each season. The hidden standout, Good Omens, follows angel Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and demon Crowley (David Tennant), who have both grown attached to earth and all its cultures, over the many millennia they’ve been watching over the planet. Now, earth is in peril, and the two unlikely friends must stop the end of the world, which neither of their factions seems to actively care about.

Good Omens is a great adaptation of Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman’s novel, which delivers an exceptional story worth talking about. Fans are especially taken with the series’ witty chemistry between besties and eventual lovers, Aziraphale and Crowley. With just two seasons, Good Omens has proved itself in momentum and quality, offering audiences a binge-worthy comedic fantasy that quietly delivers a true heart-wrenching romance.

Sweet Tooth is definitely worthy of its title, as the series is quite frankly too sweet for words. The Netflix show, based on Jeff Lemire’s DC/Vertigo comic series, centers around half-deer, half-human boy Gus (Christian Convery), who barely knows the collapsed world around him and still leaves his sanctuary in search of the mother he’s never met, after the tragic passing of his father.

Sweet Tooth offers its audience a dark fairy tale with mystic-like storytelling, whimsical narration, and moral themes of humanity, survival, and innocence. It’s an adventure story that’s capable of tugging on any viewer’s heartstrings and only does so more intently with each season. Every step of Gus’s journey invites viewers to root for him and his companions, as each season brings him closer and closer to his goal. With the expansion of the world in each installation of the series, and the deepening of Gus’s character, Sweet Tooth does a fantastic job of keeping audiences hooked from beginning to end with its heartfelt and fantastical lore.

This hit series is one that wields a mythical story and a truly lavish set. The fantasy show The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is set thousands of years before The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, following the rise of evil and the young heroes who are standing in its way.

The current two-season series is one of the most ideal choices for an epic fantasy binge. Season 1 opens up the show brilliantly, and Season 2 does a great job building upon its story in a manner that leaves audiences praising the show’s improvements. Each season delivers a mythic tension featuring major battles and fantastical creatures, as it goes into depth exploring beloved character journeys. With a story that only grows grander from its very first episode, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power stands as a memorable fantasy binge that masterfully captures danger, magic, and the true wonder of Middle-earth.

The Legend of Vox Machina is an animated fantasy TV show that constantly delivers nonstop charm and chaos. The Dungeons & Dragons-inspired series centers around a ragtag band of heroes for hire and their epically absurd misadventures in the land of Exandria. With a new foe on the rise, the band of misfits must become victorious heroes and save their home—of course, for the right price.

From demons and dragons to political affairs and discovered destinies, The Legend of Vox Machina is a fantasy animation done right. The series is genuinely hilarious, action-filled, and comedically raunchy. With just three seasons under its belt, the action-filled animation is frequently praised for leveling up with each one, making it not only one of the best animations to hit screens, but also one of the best binge-worthy fantasy shows worthy enough for both D&D fans and lovers of the mythical and fantastical.

2

‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ (2005–2008)

This fantastic fantasy animation is one that is still extremely bingeable today. Avatar: The Last Airbender is set in a world where benders—those able to control one of the four elements—exist. The story follows Aang (Zach Tyler Eisen), the Avatar who can wield all four elements, as he emerges from an iceberg to find most of the world quite literally on fire due to the tyrannical reign of the Fire Nation. With the intention of mastering all the elements in time to save the world, Aang sets out on a journey of discovery, restoring balance along the way.

Avatar: The Last Airbender is a series that truly excels in brilliance with each enthralling season. The series not only wields a compelling amount of character development throughout each installment, but it also expands on its lore and intrigue. With its nuanced world-building blend of humor and drama, along with its cinematic animation, Avatar: The Last Airbender stands among some of the greatest fantasy TV series out there, and is no doubt a bingeable cult classic.
