Outlander season 7 ended in a massive twist that revolves around one particular episode from the series’ past. The romantasy series is going into its eighth and final season, which means a great deal has happened since Claire first slipped through the stones in the 18th century. There have been a total of 91 episodes in Outlander so far, so there are bound to be some details that have slipped through the cracks over the years—including those that relate to the Faith Fraser twist from Outlander season 7.
The finale of Outlander season 7 saw Claire begin to suspect that her daughter, Faith, had somehow lived. This was the baby who had been stillborn decades previous in France, to whom Claire sang the 20th-century song “I Do Like to Be Beside the Seaside” before she was buried at L’Hôpital des Anges. Claire seems to suspect Master Raymond had some hand in bringing the baby back to life, but Faith was born so long ago in Outlander that it’s hard to keep all the details straight. For a bit of clarity, Claire’s tragic miscarriage in season 2 is the place to turn.

The big Faith revelation of Outlander season 7, episode 16, connects to the events of Outlander season 2, episode 7, “Faith.” This was when Claire went into early labor with her baby while Jamie dueled Black Jack Randall, resulting in the stillbirth of the infant. Mother Hildegard was the one who named her Faith, and Claire was allowed to hold the baby for several hours before she was taken away to be buried. However, shortly after this, Claire became extremely ill. A piece of the placenta remained in her uterus, and this caused an infection that nearly killed Claire.

As he did this, Claire saw visions of a great blue heron, and Master Raymond explained that blue was the color of healing and that the wings would carry away Claire’s pain. Later in this Outlander episode, Claire saved Master Raymond’s life as well, manipulating King Louis XV into finding the man innocent of witchcraft. This was the last that Claire saw Master Raymond—until Outlander season 7, that is.

Outlander Season 8 Is Sure To Reveal Further Details
Several important details of Outlander season 2, episode 7, “Faith,” were referenced in the finale of season 7. Claire again saw the blue wings of a heron when Master Raymond visited her in a dream. This vision returned to her when Fanny Pocock sang “I Do Like to Be Beside the Seaside,” the same song Claire sang to Faith’s body in season 2. Additionally, Master Raymond once again told Claire to “have Faith.” However, there was no real indication in the episode “Faith” that Jamie and Claire’s daughter could have survived.
Outlander‘s Faith twist hasn’t happened in Diana Gabaldon’s books, so this likely wasn’t planned back in season 2.
Claire held Faith’s body for hours in Outlander season 2, so there’s no way that the infant was secretly alive and no one noticed. While it’s a bit of a stretch, it seems the only way Claire and Jamie’s first daughter lived is if Master Raymond resurrected her. It’s implied that he only arrived at the hospital after Faith was buried, but the timeline of Outlander season 2, episode 7, is ambiguous and plays out on screen out of order. This detail may be how Outlander season 8 gets away with explaining the season 7 twist—but only time will tell.
