Is Avengers: Doomsday in major trouble? Filming on the MCU’s upcoming crossover event has reportedly been pushed back due to the current status of the script.
To say that a lot is riding on Avengers: Doomsday is an understatement. The project is set to be a part one to a capstone on the most controversial era of the MCU, with Marvel taking hit after hit (and not in the good way) from fans and critics alike. If this film stumbles, not only will it fail to stick the landing on half a decade of storytelling, but it may tee up financial disaster for Avengers: Secret Wars when it hits theaters in 2027.
Sadly, things aren’t looking great. While Avengers: Doomsday was originally set to begin filming next month in London, a rumor from DanielRPK suggests that Marvel is pushing back their production until April. According to the insider, this is because the script for the long-awaited project still isn’t finished following Stephen McFeely and the Russo Brothers picking up the torch from Jeff Loveness and Michael Waldron.
Will Avengers: Doomsday Get Delayed?
In truth, having an unfinished script isn’t the worst thing in the world. Marvel has often engaged in major rewrites during the process of shooting, even in the earliest days of the MCU. What fans should be concerned about is that the filming date for Avengers: Doomsday has been pushed back (if the rumor is true), but the release date hasn’t. This means one less month for post-production crews, who have already been pushed to their limits in recent blockbusters.
Luckily, it’s likely Marvel is planning to hit the ground running in April. Reports on social media suggest stars like Chris Hemsworth and Sebastian Stan have already been spotted in London leading up to Avengers: Doomsday beginning filming. Given how many stars Marvel plans to bring into the fold with this flick, it’s likely different corners of the MCU may show up on set at different times, and may even film some of their segments simultaneously.
