Music icon Bebe Rexha is reassuring her fans that she is OK after addressing a viral comment.

A clip from the performer’s recent livestream in which she read out a ‘body-shaming’ comment went viral on social media.

In a follow up video, the ‘I’m Good (Blue)’ singer updated her fans and reassured them that she’s “unbothered” by the online commentary.

“I just got back from Dubai. I did an amazing charity event. It was so beautiful,” she said, noting that she hadn’t done an Instagram live in a long time.

She continued: ”I get back [from performing in Dubai] last night, my friends are like have you seen the clip that’s going viral.

“So I go look at the clip, read the comments – because I’m nosy – and you guys are very nice to me and supportive of me. But I want to say a couple of things.”

“Number one, I am unbothered. Number two, I’m very aware of everything. I know I gained weight. I know that I’ve been through a lot,” she said.

“I know that people know my songs but don’t know me, and I haven’t gotten the recognition I’ve deserved.

“But instead of letting that all break me down, it’s actually made me feel more powerful and I’ve been working on new music, and I’ve been putting it into my music.

“And I don’t want you to feel bad for me because I promise you I feel stronger than ever and I love you.”

Legends of the music world, then and now

In the initial clip that went viral, Rexha read out comments from viewers while live on Instagram. One was a derogatory commented on her weight.

Other people in the room appeared shocked when she read it out loud but the Grammy-nominated star noted, “honestly who cares”.

Rexha is known for her hit songs including I’m Good (Blue) with David Guetta, In The Name Of Love and I’m A Mess.

The now 35-year-old singer started out her career in music as a songwriter working with the likes of David Guetta, Lil Wayne and Selena Gomez.

Her debut album Expectations was released in 2018. She has since released two more studio albums, Better Mistakes in 2021 and Bebe in 2023.

Rexha is not the only star to call out online ‘body-shaming’.

Tennis commentator and former professional player Jelena Dokic regularly experienced similar comments and often calls out the double standards of body-shaming critics.

”It’s not easy, I’m not the only one that goes through it, I think pretty much every single person that’s in the spotlight or has a public profile unfortunately goes through it and especially women when it comes to body-shaming and body image,” she told Today.

British model Iskra Lawrence has also spoken out about it.

She recently returned to the runway with her four-month old daughter after being trolled for walking the runway while pregnant last year.

“After being body shamed whilst pregnant on the runway last year, I decided to return to the runway four months postpartum and celebrate the body they told me not to be ashamed of and cover up because all bodies deserve representation including postpartum ones,” she wrote about the experience.
