Season 9 of Summer House has just started airing – and after watching the first episode, of the reality series, its obvious the show needs a major cast shakeup. Over the past nine seasons, we’ve had four main fixtures on the show — Kyle Cooke, Carl Radke, Lindsay Hubbard, and Amanda Batula. Although we have grown up watching these four on Summer House, this season proves that they have grown out of the show. The premise of Summer House is a group of friends who like to party, go out, and hookup with each other in a share house in the Hamptons — and the four OGs are no longer doing any of the sort. Even the newer cast members aren’t stepping up to the plate this season. As much as fans love the current cast, it’s time to shake thinhgs up and bring in fresh blood.
The ‘Summer House’ Cast’s Age Is Starting to Show in Season 9
Watching the first episode of this season of Summer House, you can tell that some of the cast members’ ages are starting to show. In particular, the four OG cast members are growing out of being on the series. If you look back at where they were in the older seasons, and the kind of drama they were delivering, versus now, you’d understand why it’s time for them to go.
In Season 1, Carl was the ultimate New York City bachelor. He partied from when the sun went down until it came up, and had a revolving door of women on his roster. He had a brief summer romance with castmate Lauren Wirkus in Season 1, before later dating Danielle Olivera. Following the death of his brother, Carl is now sober. As great as the move was for his health, it means he doesn’t lead the same kind of lifestyle he did before. His rocky relationship with Lindsay overtook his party boy storyline, but after the two broke off their engagement last season, there isn’t much of a storyline left for him. Based on this season’s trailer, Carl gets into a few altercations with Lindsay, but otherwise, his storyline has no direction.

The fan-favorite was full of doubts.
Lindsay made a huge announcement during the Season 9 premiere. After her engagement to Carl ended last season, she is with a new man, Turner Kufe, who doesn’t appear on the show. In a shocking twist, Lindsay reveals to the houseguests that she is pregnant. As amazing as it is that Lindsay finally gets to live out her dreams of being a mom, I don’t know why she even agreed to do the show this season. Having a pregnant lady in the house is going to completely change the vibe. We know she won’t be doing anything crazy this season, and the other houseguests may hold back on their crazy antics now that a woman carrying a child is in the house. It’s also another level of bizarre having Carl and his pregnant ex-fiance living in a house together.
Kyle and Amanda’s relationship has been all over the place since Season 1. Amanda was always the more mature one of the two, struggling with Kyle’s frat boy antics — especially after they got married. However, the two of them have finally seemed to smooth things over. It’s great that they’ve worked things out, but not interesting to watch on TV. Kyle was always down to party until the crack of dawn, but this season he came home early for the first time ever! Even Peter Pan himself is finally growing up. As much as fans love the OG cast members, they’ve grown up and are clearly ready to move on with their lives.
Even the Newer ‘Summer House’ Cast Members Aren’t Delivering This Season
We know that the OG cast members aren’t going to deliver much this season in terms of drama — but by the looks of it, even the newer cast members are going to disappoint. As iconic as Paige DeSorbo and her one-liners are, this season her storyline seems to go pretty dry — until the very end, that is. The Season 9 trailer teases a bit of trouble in paradise in her relationship with Southern Charm’s Craig Conover, however, the real drama comes later. Cameras pick back up after learning that Paige and Craig broke up, and Paige teases that there may have been infidelity in the relationship on his end. However, these scenes will most likely not air until the season finale, so it doesn’t look like Paige will deliver much during the season.
The only interesting storyline I can point out during the season is between Jesse Solomon, Ciara Miller, and newbie Lexi Wood. The season trailer teases a love triangle between the three of them, which is sure to make for great drama. Ciara was briefly dating castmate West Wilson. However, after their messy break-up, Ciara seems to be cozying up to West’s best friend Jesse this season. If the newbies are the only ones creating drama, having fun, and being crazy, why are the OG cast members still on the show? As much as I love them, they either need to go, or get their own NYC version of The Valley. Summer House needs to keep Jesse and West (maybe Lexi depending on what happens this season), and introduce a whole new cast that’s younger, single, down to party, and create a little drama.
