Is Superman going to be better than Man of Steel? Writer David S. Goyer gives his thoughts on James Gunn’s upcoming reboot for the DC Universe.
There has been a divide in the DC Universe fanbase for over a decade. The second Man of Steel hit theaters, two camps were formed on the internet: those who loved the unorthodox take that Zack Snyder and writer David S. Goyer brought to Superman, and those begging for a reboot. And with James Gunn finally hitting the “reset” button on the franchise, these tensions have only inflamed.
This has led some people on the internet to pit the faces of the two projects against each other, with James Gunn and the cast of Superman being attacked as proxies for the reboot, and Zack Snyder and David S. Goyer being used as bastions of the “old” DC Universe. To some terminally online, the idea of all these people secretly hating each other is as much of a fact as the sun rising each morning.
Does David S. Goyer Approve Of Superman?
With James Gunn’s Superman film barreling toward theaters next month, more and more people have been giving their thoughts on the reboot. This includes DC Universe alum David S. Goyer. During a recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the writer remarked that Gunn’s film looked nothing like Man Of Steel. However, that certainly doesn’t seem to be a bad thing to him.
“People have said ‘How are you reacting to the trailers?’ – I’ve not seen the film yet – for the new Superman film. I loved them. And it’s not Man of Steel at all. Because I came from that world it would not have occurred to me to use Krypto. But when Krypto shows up I’ve just got a big grin on my face”
It’s good to hear that even the writer of Man of Steel seems to be excited for James Gunn’s take on the character. Of course, even if Zack Snyder posted a video of him buying 20 ticket stubs for Superman, there will always be those ontologically against the reboot. However, hopefully they’ll be one day where the DC Universe fanbase can be whole once more.
