Is Thanos finally making his return? The latest rumor suggests that Marvel’s most popular villain may make an appearance during the Multiverse Saga.
With the end of the Multiverse Saga drawing ever closer, fans have started to turn, not to the MCU’s future, but its past. The next two Avengers films are meant to be celebrations of all that came before them. This has left many to wonder if Thanos, perhaps the most popular Marvel villain of the past 20 years, will make his return in the finale.
The latest rumor from Hollywood insider MyTimeToShineHello seems to suggest that the answer is yes. While the scooper declined to say when Thanos would actually return, it would make sense if the villain made some sort of appearance in the Multiverse Saga’s upcoming Avengers films. This, especially given that Thanos has close ties to Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man, it’s more likely he appears in Doomsday than Secret Wars in order to establish his version of Doctor Doom as a threat.
What Is Thanos’ Role In The Multiverse Saga?
If this rumor is true, most people would assume that Thanos would return as a quick jobber, likely dying against Doctor Doom in the above scenario. However, given how much the success of the Multiverse Saga depends on the next two Avengers movies, it’s possible that the MCU’s first big bad plays a much larger role than fans expect, if only to get butts into seats.
It’s possible that Thanos teams up with the good guys in one of the next two Avengers films, this time seeking to save the Multiverse rather than destroy the Universe. This could be a fun dynamic to flip on its head, and give him more to do in making his return to the MCU than just be another name on the roster. Though given how stacked the Multiverse Saga’s finale will be, there’s always a chance this rumor is just an optimistic wish.
