Paul Simon undergoes surgery after cancelling concert
Paul Simon is on the road to recovery after undergoing successful back surgery this week, following a series of concert cancellations due to chronic pain. The legendary musician had been battling severe back issues that ultimately forced him to postpone two scheduled performances in Philadelphia on June 27 and 28.
A statement released on July 3 confirmed that Simon underwent a minor surgical procedure to address the “excruciating back pain” he had been experiencing. According to the update shared on his official Instagram, the surgery went smoothly, thanks to “a great team of doctors.” However, the statement also noted that Simon will need “one additional day of rest and recuperation” before returning to the stage.
Originally slated to perform on July 7 at The Terrace Theater in Long Beach, California, Simon has moved the concert to Tuesday, July 8. Organizers emphasized that all original tickets will be valid for the new date and that refunds will be available for those unable to attend.
The change comes as part of an effort to ensure Simon is in top form for his return. The statement added, “We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, but Paul is looking forward to seeing everyone in Long Beach on Tuesday.” Simon’s back problems came to a head on June 28 when he abruptly canceled his Philadelphia concerts just hours before showtime. The update also expressed hopes that the surgery would enable him to complete the tour and possibly reschedule the missed shows.
