The announcements for Marvel’s upcoming Age of Revelation continue apace. In the current Marvel manner, the reveals are coming out one day at a time for an event of this size and scope. Today’s announcement looks a little more subdued after yesterday’s with the reveal of Jonathan Hickman‘s return to the X-Books. However, these announcements offer more looks at the Marvel Universe that exists in this alternative future. Unsurprisingly, it looks terrible for the heroes but potentially a lot of fun for readers.   Â
Unsurprisingly, Gail Simone, who currently writes Uncanny X-Men, will tackle one of the main X-Men books with Unbreakable X-Men. Simone’s current run on Uncanny with artist David Marquez (who will tackle writing duties on Sinister’s Six) has been one of the more well received books of the From the Ashes era. Seeing a writer known for her more fun takes on these character tackling them in a bleak future, especially with what looks like a blind Gambit. Lucas Werneck, fresh off a run on Storm, will join her for Unbreakable. With Jed MacKay on Amazing and Simone writing Unbreakable, the next announcement likely will be Eve Ewing writing Expatriate X-Men (dig the nod to the classic New Mutants logo for that title).Â
One of the fun parts of an event like Age of Apocalypse is seeing different creative teams approach this world and how familiar characters react in strange, occasionally shocking ways. With the titles announced today it sure looks like creative teams are showing a very different and dystopian future from what we’ve seen before. We’re getting that with a team of anti-heroes and villains lead by Mister Sinister in a power struggle with Revelation. A book where a team of mutants sets out to kill Storm. And how will Emma Frost navigate this future and what does Tony Stark have to do with it? The world being unleashed in Age of Revelation continues to offer intriguing windows for Marvel fans.
