A second season of Netflix’s hit Western survival series American Primeval must be a no-brainer after recently released viewership data on the streaming platform. American Primeval was released back in January 2025 and rapidly became Netflix’s first big original TV show of the year.
Now, in July 2025, Netflix’s viewership data reveals just how popular American Primeval was during the first half of the year. American Primeval finished in the #11 spot on the list of Netflix’s most-watched shows of the year from January to June 2025 with 46.5 million views, just missing the Top 10 overall.
Since there’s been a lot of talk about an American Primeval season 2 but nothing to show for it yet, this new Netflix viewership data seems like a good indicator of why the streamer should continue the show, and has undoubtedly added more positive buzz around the possibility.
American Primeval Has Performed Better For Netflix Than Initially Thought
It Just Missed Cracking The Top 10 Most Viewed 2025 Original Shows So Far
Nielsen originally reported that American Primeval was the #12 most-viewed original series on Netflix during the first half of 2025, but Netflix’s own viewership data confirms that it actually finished at #11. It surpassed the viewership totals of Running Point, The Four Seasons, The Residence, and Ransom Canyon, the latter of which was recently renewed for a second season.

But we definitely want to do a season 2.” With Berg seemingly on board, the ball is now in Netflix’s court.

Netflix’s New Mystery Thriller With Eric Bana Just Took Over Streaming Charts
Eric Bana’s new mystery thriller series on Netflix has surged to the #1 spot on the streamer’s Top 10 global TV List just one day after its release.
While Untamed is a very different series from American Primeval, centering on a chilling slow-burn murder mystery rather than diving into some visceral pre-Civil War battles in Utah Territory, Smith has found success with them both.
It may not arrive anytime soon, but American Primeval season 2 looks more promising than ever after the release of Netflix’s viewership data for the first half of 2025.
