DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn opened up about Peacemaker Season 2’s major role in setting up the DC Universe. This comes ahead of the show’s HBO Max return on on August 21, 2025.
Peacemaker is created, written, and directed by Gunn, who also serves as its showrunner. Season 2 will feature the return of John Cena as Chris Smith/Peacemaker, Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase/Vigilante, Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt, Steve Agee as John Economos, Nhut Le as Judomaster, and Robert Patrick as August “Auggie” Smith/White Dragon. Joining them are new cast members Frank Grillo, David Denman, Sol Rodriguez, Michael Rooker, and Tim Meadows.
What did James Gunn say about Peacemaker Season 2’s impact on the DCU?
During a recent interview with THR, Gunn confirmed that the upcoming second season of the John Cena-led superhero series will definitely be playing a huge part on the expansion of the DC Universe. He also teased fans to expect “lots of guest stars” appearing in Season 2, while expressing how excited he is for everyone to see what they’ve got in store.
“It’s a big part, definitely Superman leads directly into Peacemaker; it should be noted that this is for adults, not for children, but Superman leads into this show and then we have the setting up of all of the rest of the DCU in this season of Peacemaker, it’s incredibly important,” Gunn explained.
He continued, “Lots of guest stars coming up, lots of characters that are showing up that we’ve already met in Superman. I don’t think there’s anything that I’ve ever done that I love more than this season of Peacemaker, so I’m so excited for people to see it.”
