Does Avengers: Doomsday already have the perfect trailer? A new rumor suggests that Doctor Doom could be taking over the big screen sooner than fans think.
With filming for Avengers: Doomsday mostly completed, the rumor mill has now shifted to talking about the project’s trailer. Namely, when it will release. The general consensus from leakers is that the first footage from the upcoming film will be seen in front of Avatar: Fire and Ash, with a strong focus being put on Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom.
However, despite the trailer likely being cut now, there hasn’t been much information about what the footage will entail. The rumor gaining the most traction actually comes from the team over at Film Threat. While this report should be taken with a MASSIVE grain of salt, it does suggest that Doctor Doom will be an incredibly tragic figure heading into Avengers: Doomsday.
“The person who saw it said, ‘It’s not finished,’ but this person was surprised by the amount of footage they showed of Doom in action…this is not a teaser trailer. You’re gonna get, not just a glimpse of Doom, you’re gonna see Doom.”
“The way the character was described, in terms of Downey’s interpretation, is a classic Universal Monster, like The Phantom of the Opera. It’s a tragic figure and a broken figure, and part of it is his armor…Doom must have the armor because he has a broken body. Scarred. ‘He went full Universal Monster’ with the interpretation.’ He needs the suit to actually function.”
The Make-Or-Break Trailer For Avengers: Doomsday
It’s interesting that the first trailer for Avengers: Doomsday will focus so much on Doctor Doom (if this rumor turns out to be true). It was expected that, while the villain would play a leading role in the project, Marvel would try their best to avoid giving out details until the film was closer to release.
However, if this rumor is accurate in focusing on Doctor Doom, it may be that the studio is trying to move away from the narrative that Avengers: Doomsday is simply a crossover movie. Rather, they’re trying to show that the film will be focused on the journey of Doctor Doom, and that the Avengers are simply obstacles standing in his way.
