The Fantastic Four: First Steps featured the birth of Franklin Richards, who may already be the MCU’s most powerful character. The addition of Marvel’s First Family to the MCU is a major step for the franchise. They finally got a film worthy of their legacy, and it’ll be worth the wait to see them finally interact with other MCU characters.

While the film did tease Doctor Doom’s arrival ahead of Avengers: Doomsday, the bigger revelation may have been Franklin Richards’ introduction. The child of Sue Storm and Reed Richards, Franklin is one of the strongest characters in the history of Marvel Comics. He can warp realities, create universes, and manipulate his surroundings through telekinetic abilities.

Given his comics counterpart, it’s safe to assume that Franklin will be immensely powerful in the MCU, especially since Galactus showed a keen interest in him. First Steps only showed a brief glimpse of his abilities, but he already rivals many of the MCU’s strongest characters, even at such a young age.

As the child of Sue and Reed, Franklin inherited great power, but First Steps indicated that his abilities are almost limitless. Galactus believes he’s strong enough to replace him on his throne, and states that he “possesses the Power Cosmic.” Given how powerful Galactus is, it can be assumed that Franklin rivals his strength, and perhaps even surpasses it.

In the film, Franklin’s abilities are only shown when he resurrects his mother, whose strength was depleted after fighting off Galactus. Sue’s eyes glimmer with a purple, radiant energy, suggesting Franklin used cosmic power to bring his mother back. If he can already wield cosmic energy to revive people as a baby, he could be unstoppable once he has full control.

He doesn’t yet have many of his abilities from the comics, but that could come later. Based on First Steps‘ post-credits scene, his cosmic powers will likely be a major factor in Doomsday and Secret Wars. The possibilities for Franklin are endless, as he’s an OP character who can essentially do whatever he wants.

Since Iron Man, the MCU has added a growing roster of supremely powerful beings. Many of these characters can manipulate reality through sorcery, while others showcase their power through extreme strength or speed. In The Avengers, Thor was the strongest known character in the universe. A literal God, Thor has super strength, powerful weapons, and can wield lightning freely.

However, the introduction of sorcery changed the scales of power within the universe. Doctor Strange is almost limitless in what he can do, and the Scarlet Witch is near unstoppable when she reaches her full power. She nearly defeated Thanos by herself and was able to kill the Illuminati without breaking a sweat.

Her son, Wiccan, has similar powers, capable of creating his own realities, as seen in Agatha All Along. Cosmic energy is a destructive tool within the MCU, and is wielded by characters like Captain Marvel and Invisible Woman. Sue showed where Franklin gets his abilities from in First Steps, as she utilized her powers to push Galactus from her Earth.

Loki possessed plenty of power as an Asgardian, but he recently received an upgrade in his TV show, taking control of the sacred timeline. The God of Mischief became a cosmic force who now reigns over the multiverse. Given his new role, Loki could be a central figure in Doomsday, as he tries to keep his new timeline from rupturing.

Other powerful characters include the Eternals, Mephisto, Death, and Secret Invasion‘s G’iah, who became one of Marvel’s most powerful heroes after inheriting the abilities of Captain Marvel, Thanos, and others. Thunderbolts* also introduced Sentry/The Void, who is confirmed to return in Doomsday. While Sentry is a supreme being, his overwhelming dark side makes his powers more dangerous to use.

If Franklin is close to his comic book counterpart, then he would easily rank as one of the strongest MCU characters. The only characters who may rank above him are the Celestials and Loki, depending on his multiverse control. With the ability to create universes and warp reality, it would be hard for anyone to come close to him.

However, Franklin is still very young, and likely doesn’t have full control of his abilities yet. He did resurrect his mom as a baby though, so he already possesses plenty of power. Still, it’s hard to measure where he currently ranks among the other characters who sit at the top of the power hierarchy, but Doomsday should explore his powers further.

In First Steps‘ post-credits scene, Doctor Doom approaches Franklin in the Fantastic Four’s penthouse, taking his mask off to reveal his face to him. Given his interest in Sue and Reed’s offspring, Doom has plans for how to use Franklin’s powers to his advantage, and whoever controls the powerful child may control the multiverse.
