Daniel Craig’s Benoit Blanc is back in the third installment of writer-director Rian Johnson‘s Knives Out franchise, this time to try to solve a “perfectly impossible” murder.
The full trailer for the film (watch it above) sees Craig and the starry cast sprinkle breadcrumbs about the twist-filled plot. “This goes way beyond normal police work,” he says about the case. “This is something even I have not experienced.”
The film arrives in theaters on November 26 and starts streaming on Netflix on December 12.
Set at an upstate New York parish, the story is set in motion by the death of one of the church leaders. At the center of the tale are former boxer turned priest Jud Duplenticy (Josh O’Connor) and Monsignor Jefferson Wicks (Josh Brolin).
The cast also includes Glenn Close, Thomas Haden Church, Kerry Washington, Daryl McCormack, Jeremy Renner, Andrew Scott, Mila Kunis and Cailee Spaeny.
At Deadline’s Contenders London event last month, Johnson said Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery is more traditional in structure than the previous two installments, Glass Onion and Knives Out.
“The reality of this movie, it has almost like a more traditional murder mystery structure,” he explained. “This is how most Agatha Christie books work, where in the first act you meet all the suspects, you meet the protagonist, who’s not the detective. Then the murder happens, and the detective shows up.”
Johnson also said he is planning to take a break from the Knives Out franchise, which he launched in 2019. He is working on a new script, which he described as “something completely different, an original thing.”
