Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays

Joyeux Noel! Feliz Navidad! Frohe Weihnachten! Mele Kalikimaka! From all of us at FirstShowing.net, we want to wish every one our readers a very Merry Christmas and a Happy Holidays! Whether you might be home relaxing by the fire, spending quality the time with family or friends, or enjoying the day solo; or whether it’s snowing or sunny where you are, we hope you have a cozy week full of relaxation and warmth and good food. These last 12 months have flown by fast, with plenty of wonderful new movies entertaining us every week. Thanks as always for reading and thanks for following FS throughout this past year. We’re so glad we can continue to bring you updates each and every day on the world of cinema. As always, it’s the movies and all the movie lovers that keep us motivated. Stay healthy, stay optimistic, stay sane in these wild times. News & trailers always slow down during the holidays, but we’ll be operating at full-speed again once it clicks over to 2026 – offering us Dune: Part Three, The Odyssey, Spielberg’s Disclosure Day, Project Hail Mary, and much more ahead. Keep an eye out for just a few more updates as we slide towards the New Year.

This year’s holiday image is a fun remix of When Harry Met Sally (which has a few great Christmas scenes in it) in honor of director Rob Reiner whose tragic death still makes me sad. As we head into 2026, I hope there isn’t as much bad news as there was this year. At least we had some excellent films to discover in 2025. Movies now available to watch as of Christmas Day: meta remake of 90s comedy Anaconda this time with Jack Black & Paul Rudd; Timothee Chalamet & Josh Safdie’s electric, unforgettable table tennis film Marty Supreme; James Cameron’s epic sci-fi sequel Avatar: Fire and Ash (just opened a week ago); Neil Diamond tribute band movie Song Sung Blue co-starring Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson; The Housemaid pitting Amanda Seyfried vs Sydney Sweeney; the animated adventure comedy The SpongeBob Movie: Search for Squarepants; and the other animated adventure comedy Zootopia 2. There are a few more limited releases to watch: stunning true story historical musical The Testament of Ann Lee also featuring Amanda Seyfried; Park Chan-wook’s latest acclaimed film No Other Choice; + WWI choir film The Choral with Ralph Fiennes.

The 2026 holiday line-up isn’t really finalized yet, with only a couple of movies officially scheduled for next December so far. Currently set to debut in December 2026: the action comedy sequel Violent Night 2 with David Harbour returning as Santa Claus (on Dec. 4); Sony’s board game movie sequel Jumanji 3 which just finished filming recently (on Dec. 11); another animated sequel The Angry Birds Movie 3 (on Dec. 23); and Robert Eggers’ Werwulf monster movie starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson (the only one on Dec. 25 – Christmas Day for now). There’s also a major double header set for Dec. 18 – Marvel Studio’s legacy sequel Avengers: Doomsday opening on the same day as Denis Villeneuve’s epic sci-fi sequel Dune: Part Three. It has already been dubbed “Dunesday” on social media. Though it’s likely one of these will shift, they both won’t stick on this date. But that’s all so far… Enjoy the last few days of 2025. And stay tuned for the action-packed 2026.
