ABC’s “The Rookie” actors still can’t get over the excitement of their trip to Europe and they are revealing excerpts of the first episode of the eighth season filmed in Prague. The new video makes room for a bunch of stars such as Melissa O’Neil and Eric Winter discussing first the marvelous architecture, next the kind supporters and finally the whole “Casino Royale” vibe of Czech capital in that order and they are very invitations to the audience to watch the episode immediately.

For the Mid-Wilshire team it was nothing short of an educational trip. The Instagram account with the most reliable updates on “The Rookie” posted a behind-the-scenes video where the actors passionately tell about the location through the storyline of the eight seasons that started with the explosive premiere in Prague. The theme which the characters defined could not be less than cinematic. “We thought we were shooting Casino Royale,” one person in the video declares. “Everything was so upscale.”
Their enjoyment of the city was free and unreserved. Boat tours were mainly the way to get to know the city and the stars took full advantage. And yet the main thing which they kept referring to was the local community interaction. “The audience was wonderful,” the actors admitted. “We were really surprised by such a large crowd. The whole city seemed to be very excited about us.” The foreign people’s fun seemed to have quite an effect on the actors who called it “the best thing ever to be in a different country and share your work.”
The video is funny and at the same time creative and thoughtful in its retelling. A scene with one of the dialogues between the characters is emphasized. “Melissa? Yes. Did you miss me?” is the question. The dull response is: “What do you mean?” This extremely brief moment made a few of the commenters break into laughter.
The audience’s reaction to the post was very positive and in line with the cast’s excitement. Aesthetically, the episode was praised by the viewers. One viewer commented, “The architecture and landscape were shot BEAUTIFULLY!!” and emphasized that further by putting heart and statue emojis in addition. This love for the cast, especially for Melissa O’Neil’s character, was a recurring theme in many comments. One user wrote, “Melissa, you will always be iconic,” another user wrote, “I LOVE MELISSA,” followed by a bunch of emotional emojis.
Some of the viewers were so encouraged by the exotic setting that they were hoping for more international adventures. One fan was like, “I need them to go international more often, loved the Episode,” and this was accompanied with a pleading face emoji. Another comment went, “Sounds awesome! We need a new series in Europe too.”
The post was also noted by Czech viewers, those who expressed their pride and joy in seeing their city getting such a big feature were the same ones whose comments made the post resonate the most. One user, with a heart in his/her eyes emoji, rightly said, “As a Czech, you can’t imagine how thrilled I am about this.” Another one simply said, “I am from Prague and am so happy that they came to my city,” along with fire and clapping emoji. One local even complimented the actors for their lovely comments and wrote, “Thanks a lot… I live here so it is always nice when someone appreciates Prague.”
Not that all the remarks just praised without criticizing. There were a couple of viewers who pointed out a possible continuity hitch in the characters’ rather familiar dialogue. “Why did he say sergeant grey? Isn’t he lieutenant,” one user seemed to be puzzled and was referring to the character whose rank has been elevated. Another person agreed, “I thought Grey was promoted from sergeant???” This was a minor note in the vast ocean of praises, showcasing the dedicated and vigilant fanbase of the series.
The first episode was the one that received the highest number of compliments and comments from the audience. The aired viewer’s viewpoint was, “I absolutely adored the very first episode… it made me so curious to know the end right from the start,” and then a long stream of clapping and heart emojis followed. Another viewer said “an amazing episode”, and the person just felt joy that the show is back.

The cast’s positioning was one of having a charming and opulent detour through Europe, yet the core of the audience’s reaction is that the return of the show is the only thing that really matters. Presenting Prague as a backdrop was stunning, but still the never-ending attraction is in the viewers’ favorite characters and stories that they have been following for eight whole seasons. The great opening of the season filled with that international vibe has certainly left a high mark for the forthcoming episodes. The time spent abroad is up; however, the audience back home is more than ready for what is next judging by their reaction. The premiere date for this new season was recently announced.
