Will Hollywood ever stop making World War II movies? Probably not. There are just too many stories to be told, including some about… the weather? Focus Features has released the new trailer for Pressure, a WWII drama starring Brendan Fraser as General Dwight D. Eisenhower in the days leading up to the 1944 Allied invasion of Normandy, France, that began the liberation of Western Europe.
Operation Overlord
Transporting hundreds of thousands of troops across thousands of vessels was a staggering logistical feat, compounded by the need to keep it secret from the Nazis. But if the weather didn’t cooperate, it all would have been for naught. Royal Air Force meteorologist Captain James Stagg was tasked with predicting weather conditions for the invasion, but as Eisenhower says in the trailer, “This is the largest seaborne invasion in history. The final decision on the timing of D-Day will be mine and mine alone.“
In addition to Fraser, the film also stars Andrew Scott, Kerry Condon, Damian Lewis, and Chris Messina. Anthony Maras directed Pressure, from a script he co-wrote with David Haig, based on Haig’s stage play of the same name.
The official synopsis reads: “In the tense 72 hours before D-Day, and the fate of the free world hanging in the balance, Pressure follows General Dwight D. Eisenhower and Captain James Stagg as they face an impossible choice—launch the largest and most dangerous seaborne invasion in history or risk losing the war altogether.” The film will be released on May 29.
Fraser Will Return for The Mummy 4
It’s been great to see Fraser make his well-deserved comeback, but one of his upcoming projects is extremely exciting for longtime fans. He’s set to return as Rick O’Connell in the fourth installment of The Mummy franchise. Rachel Weisz will also be returning to the role of Evelyn after sitting out the third film.
Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett will direct from a script by David Coggeshall. The film has already been slated for a May 19, 2028 release. I can’t wait.
