Ever since Daredevil: Born Again officially joined the MCU canon Marvel fans have been hoping to see some cool crossovers. Spider-Man swinging through Hell’s Kitchen. Matt Murdock suiting up alongside the Avengers. Maybe even a surprise clash with Deadpool.
But if you’re hoping the Disney+ series is about to turn into a superhero crossover playground, you might want to pump the brakes.
Dario Scardapane, the showrunner of Daredevil: Born Again, recently spoke with SFX Magazine about the possibility of major MCU heroes dropping into the series. While he appreciates the idea, it doesn’t sound like it’s part of the plan.
“I’d be into it, because I dig the comics! But no. That’s been kind of a fun and challenging thing. We know there’s that huge world out there of the MCU. This corner of it has crossovers.
“We’ve seen Daredevil in other shows. There are other characters that are going to be popping up in movies and stuff, and that all goes into the larger MCU of it all.”
He continued: “The joke we make is, ‘Oh, those guys are uptown – we’re downtown!’ We kind of have a pocket that’s in this world of Hell’s Kitchen, in this world of New York. I always think that maybe these characters take little vacations into the larger world, but the story that we’re focusing on is really granular.”
That “uptown vs. downtown” mindset says a lot about how Marvel Studios is approaching the series. Yes, this version of Matt Murdock exists in the same universe as gods, multiversal chaos, and alien invasions. But Born Again seems committed to staying grounded in the grit of Hell’s Kitchen.
That street-level focus is part of what made the original Daredevil series such a hit in the first place.
There’s already proof that these characters can cross over when needed. Matt Murdock made a surprise appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Wilson Fisk tangled with Clint Barton in Hawkeye. On top of that, Frank Castle is expected to hit the big screen in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. So the doors aren’t completely locked.
It just sounds like those connections will happen outside the main Born Again storyline. Big-name hero appearances cost money, and this show seems more interested in telling a tightly focused crime saga than staging superhero team-ups.
Instead of cramming in cameos, the creative team appears to be doubling down on character-driven storytelling and the raw, personal conflicts that define Matt’s world.
For fans hoping to see Spider-Man trade punches with Kingpin in the series, it may not happen anytime soon. But that doesn’t mean the MCU synergy is going away. It just means Born Again wants to stand on its own feet.
Daredevil: Born Again is now streaming on Disney+, with Season 2 set to premiere in March 2026. If the show keeps delivering intense street-level drama while occasionally letting its characters “take little vacations” into the larger MCU, that’s a balance most fans can live with.
