Earlier this week saw Sony announce that it would no longer be releasing PlayStation games on the PC, meaning that anticipated titles such as Marvel’s Wolverine and Sauros will remain a PlayStation exclusive. Over the years, exclusives have pretty much not meant exclusive, with titles often releasing on both console and PC simultaneously. However, it seems as though Sony is set to combat this by locking its upcoming exclusives to PlayStation 5, and later PlayStation 6, only.
Another PlayStation Era Is Coming To A Close
According to a report by Bloomberg, online games such as Marathon and Marvel Tokon will still launch on multiple platforms, but it is PlayStation’s single-player games which will be locked behind exclusivity from now on. It was also revealed that Ghost of Yōtei, which launched on the PlayStation 5 back in October 2025, had plans to come to PC before it was “scrapped in recent weeks.” However, according to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, Sony’s plans could change in the future due to the unpredictability of the gaming industry over recent years.
For PlayStation 5 users, this news has no effect, but for PC gamers who also enjoy getting stuck into the newest single-player PlayStation game, it is a blow, especially with so many being excited about Insomniac Games’ upcoming Marvel’s Wolverine. Set to launch this September, it will now only be playable on the PS5, making it unplayable for millions. Not only that, but with the PlayStation 6 expected to be in early development, it may not be long until exclusivity becomes strictly next-gen only.
It’s Not The End Of The PS5, Of Course… Yet
In good news, this news may inspire more people to use their PlayStation 5 a lot more, or maybe even purchase one for the first time. However, that is yet another expense which we do not need, rather than just allowing us to play upcoming games on the platform of our choice. Nevertheless, the news has inspired both PlayStation and PC users to come together to share their thoughts, and, as you can expect, tensions are high.
Over on r/pcgaming, discourse soon ensued. “With single-player games, they waited 2–3 years after a console release and made no marketing for PC releases outside YouTube trailers and were wondering why the sales were low,” one user put forward. “With Helldivers 2, they released it on day 1 on PC, with full marketing and never once questioned why half the sales were on PC. What a mystery this is.”
User emochop shared, “As much as I love Sony’s single-player epics, I won’t be buying a whole a** console to play them.” However, it was one user that summed up my own thoughts perfectly, adding, “As someone who owns a PS5 and PC, this pi**es me off. The PS5 generation has been the worst console for Sony to date, and I’m not likely to buy a PS6. I would’ve loved to keep buying Sony games on PC. Now they get none of my money. Smart move, Sony.”
