The news that we were going to be returning to the bright lights and neon waterfronts of Vice City in GTA VI was certainly an exciting moment, with Rockstar’s version of real-world Miami arguably their best setting to date. The original game was undoubtedly brilliant for the time, but it has started to show its age, and the city could certainly do with a new iteration.
Happily, we’re closer to experiencing that new take on the setting than ever before, with the release still scheduled to go ahead in November. While you wait, if you do want to get in the mood by going back to where it all began, there’s a new download that will give you plenty more to explore and play through.
As first reported by DSO Gaming, modder ‘Rohansrinivasan123’ has released the New Legacy Mission Pack for Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. It’s a very ambitious project that adds 25 original story missions to the game, created using Sanny Builder and CLEO, and it’s the most comprehensive free offering for the game to date.
In sharing what fans can expect from the download, the developer shared a description:
“Fight through intense shootouts, complete daring heists, chase dangerous criminals, infiltrate gang hideouts, protect allies, and survive action-packed missions spread across the city. Every mission has been designed with its own objectives, characters, locations, and cinematic moments to make each experience feel unique.
“Whether you’re revisiting Vice City after years or playing it for the first time, New Legacy offers hours of additional content without changing the original story. Simply install the mission pack and discover a new chapter waiting in the streets of Vice City.”
It even comes with custom cutscenes that help to tell the stories of each mission, and mission briefings so you know exactly what you’re meant to be doing. The PC version of Vice City has certainly become the definitive way to play the classic, and if you’re comfortable modding it, you can certainly turn it into a playable experience that’s a lot more comfortable in 2026.
Other than that, it’s simply going to be a case of sitting tight and waiting to hear more about what’s going on with GTA VI. Let’s just hope that Rockstar does manage to stick to the currently scheduled release date in November, or the mood among members of the community really doesn’t bear thinking about for too long.
