Legislation & Order vet Anthony Anderson won’t be again for Season 22 (premiering Thursday, Sept. 22 at 8/7c) and now we all know how the Dick Wolf procedural will write out Det. Kevin Bernard. (As TVLine beforehand reported in November 2021, Anderson had signed on for only one yr of the NBC revival.)

“It’s somewhat point out,” showrunner Rick Eid informed TVLine as a part of our upcoming, in-depth Fall Preview. “It’s within the time-honored custom of Legislation & Order the place it’s very temporary and it’s like, ‘Shifting on. Right here we go. We’ve received to unravel the case.’”

Bernard’s exit will likely be talked about within the second episode of Season 22, following the three-way crossover with Legislation & Order spinoffs SVU and Organized Crime, which spans the sequence’ Sept. 22 premieres. In keeping with Eid, incoming detective Jalen Shaw (performed by Supergirl alum Mechad Brooks) will switch over to the precinct after working with Cosgrove (Jeffrey Donovan) throughout that crossover.

“You get the concept Cosgrove favored working with him, after which we discover out that the character Anthony [Anderson] performed has moved on,” he explains.

The brand new season will see the remainder of the core forged return, together with Hugh Dancy (Hannibal, The Path) as senior prosecutorial assistant Nolan Worth, Oldelya Halevi (Good Hassle) as ADA Samantha Maroun, Camryn Manheim (The Observe) as Lt. Kate Dixon, Jeffrey Donovan as Frank Cosgrove, and Sam Waterston as DA Jack McCoy.

Moreover, Grimm’s Claire Espresso will seem in at the very least one episode this season, as a lawyer.
