Now Is the Best Time to Start Collecting Blu-rays

I'm wondering if it's time to stock up on Blu-ray? Before it get's like vinyl and becomes mostly a boutique media with expensive and limited releases? I've noticed my local thrift spots have been lean on movies and players. I'm sure there are a ton of basic releases that flooded the market that will always be filler, but oddball or cult classic films are going to get hard to find without paying out the nose.
