One of the most anticipated fantasy adaptations in recent years has finally offered fans a glimpse into the world of “Children of Blood and Bone.” Paramount Pictures has unveiled the first official images from the upcoming epic, giving audiences an exciting first look at the all-star cast bringing Tomi Adeyemi’s bestselling novel to life.
Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Gina Prince-Bythewood (The Woman King, The Old Guard), the adaptation is set to arrive exclusively in theaters, including IMAX, Dolby Cinema and Premium Large Formats, on January 15, 2027.
Based on Adeyemi’s internationally bestselling novel, Children of Blood and Bone transports viewers to the mythical kingdom of Orïsha, where magic has been violently stripped away from its people. The story follows Zélie (Thuso Mbedu), a young woman determined to restore what was stolen. Alongside her brother and two unlikely royal allies, she embarks on a dangerous journey to challenge a ruthless monarchy and reignite the magic that once defined their world.

The film boasts an impressive ensemble cast, led by Thuso Mbedu, Damson Idris, Amandla Stenberg, and Tosin Cole, alongside Cynthia Erivo, Lashana Lynch, Zackary Momoh, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Chiwetel Ejiofor as King Saran, Regina King as Queen Nehanda, with Idris Elba and Viola Davis. The cast also includes Saniyya Sidney, Diaana Babnicova, Bukky Bakray, Ayra Starr, Shamz Garuba, Kola Bodunde, Pamilerin Afolake Ayodeji, and Tèmítópé Fágbénlé.
For longtime fans of the novel, the newly released images offer a first look at the richly imagined world of Orïsha, showcasing elaborate costumes, sweeping landscapes, and the scale of Prince-Bythewood’s cinematic vision. While the photos reveal only a fraction of what’s to come, they hint at an ambitious fantasy adventure that aims to faithfully capture the heart of Adeyemi’s beloved story.
The screenplay was written by Gina Prince-Bythewood and Tomi Adeyemi, with the author helping adapt her own novel for the screen. The project is produced by Wyck Godfrey, John Fischer, Isaac Klausner, Karen Rosenfelt, and Matt Jackson, with a team of executive producers that includes Adeyemi and Prince-Bythewood.
