Marvel Studios may have kept its TV plans out of the spotlight at San Diego Comic-Con and D23, but that apparently doesn’t mean the Disney+ side of the MCU is slowing to a crawl.
Despite recent reports that Marvel was scaling back its television output, a new report claims several live-action shows are currently in development, and we could start hearing about them very soon.
Marvel spent SDCC 2026 and D23 putting plenty of attention on its upcoming movies, while noticeably skipping announcements for brand-new TV projects.
According to Puck’s What I’m Hearing, however, multiple live-action Marvel series are being developed for Disney+ and official announcements are expected in the near future.
Marvel hasn’t hinted at or teased what those mystery projects are yet, but New York Comic Con 2026 looks like a pretty good place to keep an eye on.
Marvel Television and Marvel Animation will hold a panel on Thursday, October 8, and its official description reads: “Join special guests for an inside look at Marvel Television and Marvel Animation’s most anticipated upcoming series on Disney Plus.”
Whether Marvel actually uses NYCC to unveil any of these reported shows remains to be seen, but the timing certainly makes it an interesting possibility.
For now, the next new live-action Marvel series is VisionQuest, the WandaVision spinoff that brings Paul Bettany back as Vision for his own solo adventure. The series premieres October 14, 2026, on Disney+.
Marvel also has several returning shows in the works. Your Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man Season 2 arrives in January 2027, while Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 and X-Men ’97 Season 3 are currently in development. X-Men ’97 is already looking even further ahead, with Season 4 also in development and scripts underway.
Still, there have been some major changes to Marvel’s television plans this year, which helps explain why fans might have thought the studio was backing away from the small screen.
Wonder Man was previously renewed for a second season before Marvel reversed course and shockingly canceled it. Then there’s Nova, which had originally been announced as a TV series. Kevin Feige confirmed at SDCC 2026 that the cosmic superhero project is still happening, but it has been reworked as a feature film.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day arrived last month and delivered record-breaking box office numbers, while Avengers: Doomsday is headed to theaters this December. Marvel also has Avengers: Secret Wars and Black Panther 3 coming down the pipeline.
The studio used SDCC to announce a Ghost Rider movie as well, while D23 brought the cast reveal for Marvel’s X-Men. Taken together, Marvel’s recent presentations have been very movie-heavy, making the lack of fresh Disney+ announcements even more noticeable.
Now it appears the TV side of the MCU still might be cooking something up. Marvel may simply be changing how and when it announces its streaming projects rather than abandoning them.
The big question, of course, is what these unannounced Marvel TV shows actually are. There are a lot of characters sitting on the MCU bench who could carry a Disney+ series.
We may not have to wait long to find out what’s next. With Marvel Television and Marvel Animation taking the stage at NYCC, there’s now a very good reason for MCU fans to pay attention.
