The world feels a little less bright today.
As we previously reported, country music legend Dolly Parton has sadly passed away at age 80.
It’s hard to imagine country music, or pop culture in general, without her.
Dolly was a brilliant songwriter, an unforgettable performer, a hilarious storyteller, and someone who used her success to help countless others.
Through it all, she gave us songs for falling in love, letting go, surviving hard times, and finding the strength to keep going.
And now we’re remembering her the best way we know how… through the music that made the world fall in love with her.
JOLENE
Nobody could make desperation sound quite as beautiful as Dolly. Released in 1973, Jolene became one of her defining songs and remains instantly recognizable more than five decades later.
9 TO 5
An anthem for overworked and underappreciated women everywhere! Dolly wrote the title song for the 1980 film, which she also starred in alongside Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin.
I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU
Long before Whitney Houston turned it into a global phenomenon, Dolly wrote and recorded this stunning farewell. Her original version is quieter, simpler, and absolutely gorgeous. Released in 1974, it remains just as moving today.
COAT OF MANY COLORS
It may not have achieved the crossover success of some of her biggest hits, but this deeply personal 1971 song remains one of Dolly’s most beloved. Inspired by her childhood in rural Tennessee, it showed that love could make even the humblest gift priceless.
ISLANDS IN THE STREAM
Dolly and Kenny Rogers created pure magic together! Their beloved 1983 duet became a massive hit and one of the most memorable musical partnerships in country music history.
HERE YOU COME AGAIN
From the opening piano notes, you just know! This 1977 classic helped Dolly cross over from country music into the pop world without losing any of the warmth that made her so special.
TWO DOORS DOWN
Released in 1978, this joyful, catchy classic is impossible not to sing along with. It perfectly captured Dolly’s ability to turn heartache into a party.
WHY’D YOU COME IN HERE LOOKIN’ LIKE THAT
Released in 1989, this playful Dolly classic was packed with attitude, humor, and country charm. Nobody delivered a line quite like she did!
LIGHT OF A CLEAR BLUE MORNING
We can’t think of a more fitting song to end with.
Released in 1977, Dolly wrote this hopeful anthem during a major turning point in her life. Decades later, its message about surviving the darkness and finally seeing brighter days ahead still hits just as hard.
There will never be another Dolly Parton!
Her music and legacy will always live on.
Rest in peace, Dolly.
You will always be loved.
