EXCLUSIVE: Alex Winter, who costarred with his old Bill & Ted partner Keanu Reeves last year in the Broadway revival of Waiting For Godot, will return to the New York stage next year in a Small Boat Productions Off Broadway revival of Arthur Miller’s 1964 play Incident at Vichy.
Winter will both star in and produce the one-act play, expected to open in spring 2027. Kanika Asavari Vaish will direct, with additional casting, production dates and venue to be announced.
Also producing are Ben Natan, AJ Liu and Connie Tavel. Mix and Match Productions will serve as the General Manager.

First staged on Broadway in 1964 with Harold Clurman directing a cast that included Hal Holbrook and Tony Lo Bianco, Incident at Vichy was set in 1942 and focused on a group of men undergoing “racial inspection” by German military officers and Vichy French police detained in Vichy, France.
The revival will feature a cast with actors of different races and genders who will play the characters as written by Miller. According to Small Boat Productions, “Incident at Vichy in the 21st Century will strip away the lavish, realistic set and period costumes and instead focus on what is happening and to whom. This is not a play about one moment trapped in time; rather, it is a play about an ongoing catastrophe of indifference and inaction in the face of atrocity. What happened in Vichy, France happened across all of Europe, it happened in Vietnam and Indonesia, and is happening now across Ukraine, Lebanon, Gaza, Iran, and Minneapolis.”

Arthur Miller’s enduring impact rivals Shakespeare’s, with a consistently socially conscious body of work that challenged power structures and society’s complicity during his time and still reaches modern audiences with the horrors of today. I am especially excited to be championing marginalized voices on an Off Broadway stage to the hungry, attentive, New York audience.”
