Jackson Warne has shared a deeply personal reminder of his father Shane’s love, posting an unseen video to mark what would have been the cricket legend’s 57th birthday.
The 27-year-old remembered his dad on Sunday, 13 September, with a message Shane had recorded while away in Scotland for the Alfred Dunhill golf championship.
Wrapped up against the cold, the Australian sportsman chatted about his day before excitedly counting down to his return home. “I’m back on the 14th. I think I got six sleeps until I see you guys. Yay!” he said.
© InstagramAlongside the footage, Jackson wrote simply: “Missing these updates, happy birthday Dad.” His older sister Brooke, 29, was among those responding, commenting: “These updates were the best, miss them so much.”
Shane Warne’s loving message to his children
The video captured the familiar details of a parent checking in while working away, with Shane taking his son through the layers he had piled on for the Scottish weather.
“This is me rugged up. I’ve got a beanie. I’ve got about four different layers on. I’ve got a little snood that keeps my neck and that warm,” he explained.

Despite his extraordinary sporting career, Shane admitted he was “bloody nervous” about the golf tournament. His enthusiasm at the prospect of seeing his children, however, was unmistakable.
Signing off, he told Jackson: “I hope you had a good day and I’m missing and loving you lots. Let’s do this.”
For the family, the recording preserves something particularly precious: their dad’s voice, humour and affectionate updates from wherever his work took him.

Brooke also marked the occasion with a childhood photograph shared on her Instagram Story, showing her beside Shane as a little girl. “Today will always be your day. Happy birthday dada,” she wrote.

The proposal took place in Montana, with a rainbow appearing in the sky behind the couple. Sharing footage of the moment, Brooke explained how the sight had helped her feel connected to her late father during the celebration.
“When your angels show you their love for your engagement, the only way they know how. The sky looks different when you have angels up there,” she wrote. “Forever with you Alex, and our angels forever with us.”
Shane Warne’s life as a father
Shane shared Brooke, Jackson and youngest daughter Summer with his former wife, Simone Callahan. The couple married in 1995 and separated in 2005.
The celebrated leg-spinner died on 4 March 2022, aged 52, while visiting Koh Samui in Thailand. Following a post-mortem examination, Thai police confirmed that he had died of natural causes.
In the days after his death, Jackson spoke about their close friendship and the everyday experiences they had enjoyed together, from golf and poker to watching their beloved St Kilda football club.

Reflecting on fatherhood in 2021, in comments reported by the Herald Sun and reproduced he said: “I always made their lunches, walked them to school, took them to sport, etc.”
