Noah Wyle stressed his roots in the industry’s home town in accepting the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series for his performance in The Pitt.
Beaming as he delivered an evenly paced, minute-long acceptance speech at Sunday’s show, Wyle made prominent note of his background. “I grew up in L.A.,” he said. “I’m a Hollywood kid. I was raised on a television, and movie theaters were my place of worship. This is all I’ve ever wanted to do, and this is the only club I’ve ever wanted to join. Thank you for accepting me.”
It was a repeat win for Wyle. His victory in the same category in 2025 keyed The Pitt‘s strong overall showing. The HBO Max medical drama’s wins included the big prize, Outstanding Drama Series, which established it as a favorite in this year’s Emmy race. It led the field this year with 25 overall nominations.
Wyle alluded to ongoing production of the show’s third season, thanking “all the men and women who work so hard on Stage 22” on the Warner Bros. lot in Burbank. “We’re gonna be back there, hitting it hard tomorrow morning,” he added with a grin. “Really early, doing some hard stuff.”
The actor shouted out his fellow nominees, including Gary Oldman, who was up for Slow Horses. “I don’t know that there’s an actor my age who didn’t look at [Oldman’s breakout 1980s films] Prick Up Your Ears and Sid and Nancy and think, ‘That’s the benchmark that I want to hit one day in my career.’”
The return to the winner’s circle for Wyle has highlighted a remarkable callback to his involvement in the highly decorated ratings blockbuster ER. Like the earlier show, a mainstay of NBC’s “must-see TV” lineup, The Pitt takes place in a hospital emergency room and thrives on the inherent emotional highs and lows of its setting.
In a conversation with Deadline after he received three nominations (including ones for directing and producing), Wyle joked that medical shows seem to “fit me like a surgical glove.”
