Metallica isn’t quite ready to put the M72 World Tour in the rearview mirror. The band has announced a new North American stadium run for 2027, extending the blockbuster trek into its fifth year — and setting up a return to the road shortly after the group completes its previously announced residency at Las Vegas’ Sphere.
Metallica will make its Sphere debut with Life Burns Faster, a residency that launches Oct. 1 and runs through March 13, 2027. Now, the band has mapped out what comes next: the 2027 M72 extension will kick off May 8 at BC Place in Vancouver and conclude June 19 at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City.
The new itinerary encompasses a dozen cities the band hasn’t visited on this particular run, with support coming from Limp Bizkit and Avatar. Fan Club presales begin Sept. 21 at 10 a.m. local time, with Citi cardmember and Verizon Shine presales following Sept. 22. The general onsale begins Sept. 25 at 10 a.m. local time.
By the time Metallica returns to stadiums next May, M72 will have been underway for four years. The tour launched in April 2023 and has so far logged 99 shows across 26 countries, with nearly five million members of the “Metallica family” attending. The band has been off the road since July 3 and 5 concerts at London Stadium.
The tour’s distinctive production — including its massive in-the-round stage — has helped make M72 one of the biggest live undertakings of Metallica’s career. The band has also continued to attach its touring operation to philanthropy: a portion of proceeds from every ticket sold goes to local charities through Metallica’s All Within My Hands foundation.
