North West pulled out all the stops for Halloween, transforming into Johnny Depp’s Edward Scissorhands with pale makeup, facial scars and the character’s unmistakable scissor fingers.
The 13-year-old daughter of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West shared her latest costume on Thursday, October 29, swapping her signature blue hair for a tousled dark updo. Photos and videos showed her holding up the elaborate gloves, with music from the film accompanying an Instagram Story.
North put her own spin on the character’s wardrobe, wearing a black corseted minidress covered in belts, black tights and platform boots. The outfit echoed the buckled costume Depp wore in Tim Burton’s 1990 film, which also starred Winona Ryder.
Her latest transformation follows several other costumes shared ahead of October 31, ranging from animated characters to a reality television personality.
North West’s Halloween costumes inspire Kim Kardashian
Earlier in the month, North dressed as Bad Girls Club star Natalie Nunn, using a prosthetic chin as part of the transformation.
Natalie returned the favor by dressing as North, recreating her blue pigtails and accessorizing with spiked jewelry and long black nails. Kim also chose her eldest daughter as the inspiration for her own Halloween look.
North’s other costumes included Raven from Teen Titans, with creator Wardrobe appearing alongside her as Beast Boy, and virtual Japanese pop star Hatsune Miku. The latter’s long blue pigtails are already a familiar reference in North’s everyday style.
In her September interview with Dazed, North identified Miku as the fictional character she most related to, explaining that the performer’s blue hair had inspired her own. She also described using TikTok and Pinterest to collect ideas for her nails and hair, sometimes drawing designs when she couldn’t find the look she wanted online.
Kim Kardashian on North West’s special-effects makeup skills
North’s interest in dramatic transformations stretches back several years.
Speaking to Allure in 2022, Kim revealed that her daughter was already learning how to create special-effects looks, with a teacher helping her develop the techniques.
“North is really into special effects makeup and she’s really good at it,” Kim said.
The lessons included creating realistic-looking wounds and fake blood. Kim also recalled North using those skills for a prank involving her younger sister, Chicago, during a summer stay at a rented house.
More recently, North has been exploring music alongside fashion. She released her debut EP, N0rth4evr, in May and spoke to Dazed about rehearsals, performing and finding inspiration in the artists she admires.
When the conversation turned to clothes, however, she made clear that experimenting doesn’t mean giving up her individuality: “I like to try new things. But I do like to have my own style. It’s just easy.”
