Hugh Jackman traded the Broadway stage for the football field.
Over the weekend, the Deadpool & Wolverine actor got a taste of the Big Ten and college football, attending a classic rivalry game between the University of Michigan Wolverines and the Michigan State Spartans.
The Broadway star attended the game — as an honorary captain — with his girlfriend Sutton Foster, who he worked with in 2022 and began publicly dating in 2025.
Hugh took to Instagram throughout the visit and shared a slew of photos and videos decked out in Michigan’s signature blue merch, cheering on the school, which ultimately lost to their rivals in a 15-6 game.
Among the photos is a sweet shot with Sutton in which they are both smiling ear-to-ear, decked out in Michigan jackets and hats, plus Sutton even has blue and yellow sneakers.
Though neither Sutton nor Hugh are University of Michigan alums, the latter went as a “Wolverine” himself, the school’s mascot and his iconic X-Men character of over two decades.
After Hugh shared a video cheering on the school on Instagram, fans were quick to take to the comments section under the post and rave over it.
“From one Wolverine to a whole team of Wolverines! What a perfect match! I’m sure they’re keeping the playbook away from you for a reason! Enjoy every moment, Hugh! Go Blue!” one wrote.
Others followed suit with: “From one Wolverine to another! What an incredible honor to be the honorary captain of the Michigan Wolverines! I’m sure you’ll bring your amazing energy, enthusiasm, and that wonderful sense of humor to the field!” and: “Haha! This is the collaboration we didn’t know we needed. Enjoy Ann Arbor!!!” as well as: “Are you ready to suit up? Our offensive line needs you… Go Blue!”
Sutton and Hugh have kept their relationship largely out of the spotlight since they were first rumored to be dating in 2024 following their respective divorces. They first crossed paths in the early 2000s, but grew closer while starring as Harold Hill and Marian Paroo in The Music Man in 2022.
Hugh was previously married to Deborra-Lee Furness before splitting in 2023, and finalizing their divorce in 2025, after 27 years of marriage. They are parents to son Oscar, 26, and daughter Ava, 21.
Sutton meanwhile divorced her husband Ted Griffin in 2024 after 10 years of marriage. Like Hugh, she also became a parent through adoption, welcoming daughter Emily in 2017.
