Thrash steel heavyweights Anthrax have had a number of frontmen through the years, equivalent to Neil Turbin, John Bush, Dan Nelson and naturally, Joey Belladonna. If guitarist Scott Ian had his means, he would’ve added Religion No Extra’s Mike Patton to the record, too.
Ian lately chatted with mxdwn.com concerning the way forward for experimental rock group Mr. Bungle (which Patton co-founded in 1985 and Ian joined in 2019, for the 2020 re-recording and reside performances of their 1986 demo, The Raging Wrath of the Easter Bunny).
Along with proclaiming his longstanding love for Patton, Religion No Extra and Mr. Bungle – he known as Raging Wrath “the very best thrash steel file from 1986 that no person’s ever heard” – Ian admitted to half-jokingly inquiring about Patton’s curiosity in singing for Anthrax “1,000,000 years in the past . . . simply earlier than Joey [Belladonna] got here again.”
Ian elaborated:
I had stated, “Hey, do you wish to sing on the following Anthrax file?” We have been drunk in a bar in Melbourne, Australia on a competition collectively. He was with Religion No Extra. He was like, “Oh, man. You don’t need me in your band. I’m a ache within the ass.”
I used to be like, “No, no, no. I feel we might cope with it.” He goes, “Yeah, however I bought seventy-two initiatives and I might by no means commit.” I’m like, “I do know, actually. I’m asking however I’m not likely asking.” He’s like, “Don’t fear, we’ll do one thing collectively sometime.” So then when he hit me up, he goes, “Keep in mind in Melbourne after I stated we might work collectively?” I’m like, “Uh huh.” He goes, “Guess what?”
Fortuitously, the 2020 remodeling of The Raging Wrath of the Easter Bunny (and its corresponding live shows) proved to be a worthwhile and validating collaboration. In truth, publications equivalent to Consequence, Metallic Injection and Kerrang! sang its praises.
“I nonetheless freak out about it. That I did it. I performed exhibits. We made a fucking file,” Ian rejoiced.
He even states that there are “issues on the desk for the long run, exhibits. . . . We’re all too busy to have the ability to decide to it as an actual ongoing factor at this level. However there’s all the time room to go do one-offs. I’m in contact with Mike on a regular basis.”
Within the meantime, Anthrax are set to begin their UK/European 40th Anniversary tour (with Municipal Waste) on Sept. 27. You may seize tickets right here.
