The MTV Video Music Awards have kicked off for 2023 and, after a bumper year for music (especially women in pop), this year’s event is set to be a big one.
With music legends including the likes of Taylor Swift, Beyoncé and Shakira battling it out for Artist of the Year and a huge music line-up for the actual awards, there’s little doubt the 2023 VMAs will be one for the history books.

When Chris Brown’s name was mentioned in the nominations list for Best R&B, Selena Gomez’ face betrayed her true feelings about the controversial singer.
The Single Soon singer looked less than impressed as Brown’s name was read out, scrunching her face in dismay moments before SZA was awarded the VMA gong.

Brown did not appear to be at the VMAs, though he was nominated for his hit How Does It Feel.
In 2009, Brown pleaded guilty to several felony domestic assault charges over an incident with his ex-girlfriend, singer Rihanna.
