John Stamos has revisited his drunken Australian media tour in his new memoir If You Would Have Told Me.
In a chapter called ‘Blunder Down Under’, Stamos, 60, explains what led to his disastrous 2007 appearance on Nine’s Mornings with Kerri-Anne, hosted by Kerri-Anne Kennerley from 1996 to 2011.
At the time, Stamos was starring on hit US TV series ER and was battling alcohol addiction, which had been impacting his work.

Stamos began attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings ahead of his trip to Australia, which was organised by Warner Bros. He visited Greece and Hong Kong before continuing onto Australia, where he began drinking again.
The actor said he promised himself he would “definitely not hooch it up in Australia.”
“I have a lot of work to do,” he writes in the book.
By the time he arrived in Sydney, his “fourth time zone in just a few weeks”, he was met by Warner Bros Australia representatives and his friend Mike.

They began drinking the night Stamos arrived and he slept for “about 18 minutes” before beginning a round of disastrous interviews. The espresso and vodka he drank upon waking didn’t help.
He was interviewed by a newspaper journo, who later revealed publicly that Stamos was drunk during their time together.
This alarmed Stamos’ mum, who immediately called him.
By the time he arrived at Nine, Stamos was “inebriated” and angry at the journalist for worrying his mother.

“I’m going on the popular Kerri-Anne show, and it seems logical in the moment that I will inform the world that the reason the insulting journalist is embittered is directly related to his minuscule manhood.”
In fact, Stamos told Kerri-Anne the journalist had a “small penis” during his appearance on the show.
He downed some orange juice mixed with champagne and then it was go time.
“By the time I’m sitting across from a well-coifed, leopard-clad Kerri-Anne, I’m drunk on top of drunk,” he writes.
“She’s articulate, probing, and sensationally serious for a chat host. I look like a character from a Tom Waits song: waisted, wounded, rumpled, and ribald.”
During the interview, Stamos said he was “getting over jet lag,” made the comment about the journalist’s “small penis” and ended up cuddling up to Kerri-Anne, who questioned his ability to take criticism.
He then began discussing Elvis, who “died on a toilet” because he was “fat”, as Kerri-Anne struggled to keep control of the interview.

Stamos’ publicist released a statement later that day, saying his behaviour was due to Ambien.
His battle with alcohol addiction continued when he returned to the US and the set of ER and continued until 2015, when he found himself in hospital, charged with drink driving.
Stamos pleaded no contest to the charge and his plea deal influence in Beverly Hills, California.
NBC News reported that his plea deal included completing three-months in an alcohol abuse program, attending 53 Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and receiving addiction counselling.
Kennerly told TV Week she “loved” every minute of Stamos’ chaotic appearance on the show.
“I loved it. All the executives were starting to panic, but I thought it was fabulous,” she confessed.
