Jack Black says his band Tenacious D will make a comeback, despite the controversy that saw them cancel their tour last month.

The band, comprised of the actor and Kyle Gass, came under fire in July when a joke about Donald Trump during a concert in Australia saw them call off the rest of their shows.

Speaking with Entertainment Tonight Black, 54, claims the duo will return to the stage.

“I love Tenacious D… We had to take a break, but I love the D. Everybody takes a break sometimes,” he said.

The Kung Fu Panda star added: “We’ll be back.”

Last month, following the assassination attempt on the USA’s former president, Gass made a joke that caused public outrage.

While the band was onstage in Sydney, Black told Gass to make a birthday wish when blowing out his candles.

“Don’t miss Trump next time,” he replied.

When the musician realised his joke had not been interpreted well, he apologised.

Gass initially shared an apology in a since-deleted Instagram, writing: “I don’t condone violence of any kind, in any form, against anyone.

“What happened was a tragedy, and I’m incredibly sorry for my severe lack of judgement. I profoundly apologise to those I’ve let down and truly regret any pain I’ve caused,” it concluded.

Black also addressed the moment on Instagram, writing he was “blindsided” by his longtime collaborator’s comment.

“I would never condone hate speech or encourage political violence in any form,” the School of Rock actor wrote.

“After much reflection, I no longer feel it is appropriate to continue the Tenacious D tour, and all future creative plans are on hold.

“I am grateful to the fans for their support and understanding.”

Consequently, Frontier Touring cancelled all remaining tour dates, although it did not provide any reasons for the decision.

“(We) regret to advise that the remaining dates of Tenacious D’s tour of Australia and New Zealand have been cancelled,” Frontier Touring said.

“All purchased tickets will receive a full refund.”
