Is Meryl Streep finally coming to the MCU? Casting director Sarah Halley Finn gives her thoughts on the award-winning actress joining the Marvel Studios family.
Meryl Streep is one of the most highly revered actresses in the industry, having won three Oscars among dozens of other awards and accolades. Despite this, she’s never strayed away from less serious projects like Mamma Mia! and Mary Poppins Returns. This has left many to wonder if she’d ever consider giving Marvel Studios a call to pick up a role in the MCU.
While the actress isn’t strapping on the Iron Man Mark 45 just yet, it seems Marvel Studios is keeping an eye on her. When casting director Sarah Halley Finn was asked what actor she wants in the MCU, Meryl Streep was the first name from her mouth, stating she could play “anything she wants.” Finn responded with a coy “Maybe” when asked if Streep had been previously approached by the studio, before amending that there “hasn’t been the right role” for the actress yet.
Who Could Meryl Streep Play In The MCU?
Going off the idea that Marvel Studios has already approached Meryl Streep for a role in the MCU, there’s only a few roles she could have played. The two biggest ones include Aunt May, played by Oscar winner Marisa Tomei, and The Ancient One, played by Oscar winner Tilda Swinton. While it’s unclear which she would have been offered, a role as The Ancient One is more likely given their prominent role in Doctor Strange.
As for who Meryl Streep could play now, the possibilities are endless. However, only two of the truly popular fancasts for her role in the MCU remain given Marvel Studios’ current slate of actors. This includes Cybele in a potential Eternals 2, given the first film was stacked high with award winning cast members, and a comic-accurate Madame Web. Though given the state of both franchises, it’s not likely Streep will be touching either anytime soon!
