Has Doctor Doom finally met his match? Benedict Wong reveals his desire to square off against Robert Downey Jr. in Avengers: Doomsday.
Ever since it was announced that Robert Downey Jr. would be making his grant return to the MCU as Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday, it seems every Marvel star has wanted to give their thoughts. The first was his Avengers co-star Jeremy Renner, who mocked Downey for not telling him his new role. Equally excited was Don Cheadle, who admitted that he can’t even tease an interaction with how much things are in flux.
However, others were much more direct with their commentary on Robert Downey Jr.’s new role. Jeff Goldblum expressed jealousy over the name given to him as Doctor Doom, and Sebastian Stan insisted there was nobody better for the role. Meanwhile, Riri Williams actor Dominique Thorne said she wanted smoke with the villain if she landed a role in Avengers: Doomsday, and it seems she’s not the only one.
Benedict Wong Weighs In On Doctor Doom Casting
The most recent MCU star approached for their thoughts on Robert Downey Jr. playing Doctor Doom was Benedict Wong, best known for his role as Wongers, the Sorcerer Supreme. Given his new promotion, the actor is eager to take on the magical tyrant in Avengers: Doomsday, even if the ultimate decision isn’t up to him.
“Hey, well, look, I’m all for it. I’m ready!” Wong told Josh Wilding in a recent interview. “With Wong, he’s been promoted to Sorcerer Supreme so it’s all in the hands of the Marvel Universe to see where we go with it. Yeah, I’m looking forward to it.”
Given Benedict Wong stands as one of the strongest magic users in the MCU (well, that isn’t dead or wandering with a third eye), it only makes sense that he would take a crack at Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday. Though given the script is in such flux, it’s likely nobody will know who’s facing off against Robert Downey Jr. until cameras start rolling!
Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters in May 2026. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
