Marshawn Kneeland was expecting a child prior to his terrible and untimely death.
Of course, Kneeland is the Dallas Cowboys star defensive end who tragically died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound last week at just 24 years old. The team, the city, the state of Texas — the whole country, honestly — has been reeling ever since his shocking, sudden, and tragic loss.
But now, according to reports out of Dallas, a new heartbreak has emerged: Kneeland’s girlfriend Catalina Mancera is pregnant. According to the Dallas Morning News, the team’s head coach Brian Schottenheimer delivered a press conference on Wednesday in which he confirmed that Mancera is expecting the couple’s first baby.

During the press conference, Coach Schottenheimer said:
“We want to make sure she’s taken care of and the baby is taken care of for the rest of their lives.”
The Cowboys head coach also shared during the press conference that the team has created the Marshawn Kneeland Memorial Fund. Its goal is to financially assist Catalina and the unborn baby for years to come. Per People, the fund’s website states in part that it intends to support Catalina and the baby henceforth, just as Schottenheimer said during the press scrum:
“The Marshawn Kneeland Memorial Fund is dedicated to preserving Marshawn’s legacy and extending his impact through direct support for his surviving partner and unborn heir.”
BTW, also on Wednesday, Mancera broke her silence about Kneeland’s death.
In a Facebook post, she shared this message along with a white heart emoji:
“My sweet baby, words could never express how broken I feel, you’re my everything. I’ll love you forever my beautiful angel.”
So sad…
