Before Squid Game took the world by storm, another death game series captivated audiences—Alice in Borderland. Now, it’s set to return for another thrilling season in 2025.
As part of its 2025 lineup, Netflix released the “YOU’RE NOT READY | NEXT ON NETFLIX 2025” teaser. The video follows a young woman stuck in an unfulfilling corporate job as she sneaks in some Netflix during a business meeting. It highlights several upcoming titles, including the final seasons of Squid Game and Stranger Things. To tease Alice in Borderland, the woman dons Usagi’s signature white tank top and gray zip-up while dodging the series’ infamous deadly lasers.
While Netflix has yet to reveal details about the plot, cast, staff, or exact release date, this teaser all but confirms that Alice in Borderland will return sometime this year.
Based on the manga by Haro Aso, Alice in Borderland follows Ryohei Arisu, a young man who spends most of his time playing video games and hanging out with his friends, Daikichi Karube and Chōta Segawa. One day, they witness fireworks exploding at a train station. When they open their eyes again, they find themselves transported to an abandoned, alternate version of Tokyo, where they must survive a series of deadly games to uncover why they’re there—and how to get back home.
The original manga ran in Weekly Shōnen Sunday from April 2015 to March 2016, spawning a spin-off, Alice on Border Road (August 2015–February 2018), and a sequel, Alice in Borderland: Retry (October 2020–January 2021). Netflix has yet to confirm whether the upcoming season will adapt the spin-off or sequel or feature an original storyline.
The live-action adaptation, directed by Shinsuke Sato, stars Kento Yamazaki as Arisu and Tao Tsuchiya as Yuzuha Usagi. Premiering on December 10, 2020, the first season received widespread praise for its performances, special effects, cinematography, and action sequences. The eight-episode second season, released on December 22, 2022, continued the acclaim. A third season was officially announced on September 27, 2023.
