The Best Movies And Shows Coming To Paramount+ This Month
Summary
- Paramount+ provides a range of original series, like Yellowstone, and family-friendly content, with new episodes being added regularly, making it a mix of old and new.
- Criminal Minds and Mayor of Kingstown return with new episodes this month.
- Modern classics like Galaxy Quest and Stardust become available to stream.
Paramount+ has plenty of new TV shows and movies coming in June 2024, including docuseries and family favorites. Paramount+ launched in March 2021 as a rebranding of the CBS All Access streaming platform, with the goal of expanding its offerings and reach. Thanks to the re-merger between CBS and Viacom in 2019, Paramount+ also has access to Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, and MTV libraries. That usually means that library content is more exciting for subscribers than new content because they can binge existing series.
Unlike some of its competitors, Paramount+ has not put an emphasis on original movie programming except in the case of children’s films. However, the streaming service does have a popular lineup of exclusive original series, including the multiple-timeline and decade-spanning Yellowstone franchise. In June 2024, however, the biggest content for the streamer continued to be the Star Trek content that the streamer is the online home for.

The 30 Best TV Shows On Paramount+ (June 2024)
Paramount+ has come a long way from its humble beginnings as CBS All Access – as the stellar lineup of the 30 best shows on Paramount+ proves.
The Best Movies And Shows Coming To Paramount+ This Month
Galaxy Quest (1999) – June 1
Galaxy Quest is a fitting addition to the same streaming platform that hosts the Star Trek franchise. That is because the movie is very much a satire of Star Trek and other similar fictional ideas. In the movie, a group of actors who used to appear on a television series like Star Trek are abducted by aliens who want them to help them on a rescue mission. At first, the actors want to refuse, but eventually, they agree to help and actually live out their old job.
Hilarious and on point for the late ‘90s, the movie features the actors of a popular 1970s series as making a living thanks to convention appearances. It’s not far removed from what happens to actors who appear on a cult series and are forever known for that one role. Featuring Sigourney Weaver and Alan Rickman in the cast, the comedy is really pitch-perfect.
Some Kind of Wonderful (1987) – June 1
Many John Hughes movies provide a blueprint of teenage life in the 1980s for modern audiences, but there are a few that get overlooked. Best remembered are movies like The Breakfast Club and Pretty In Pink (which also joins Paramount+ in June), and movies like Some Kind of Wonderful are sometimes lost in the shuffle.
Some Kind of Wonderful is almost like a parallel version of Sixteen Candles. In this story of teen romance, it’s an artistic teenage boy looking to connect with one of the popular girls. When his best friend helps him do just that, he draws the attention of some of the other popular kids with not-so-great intentions. Of course, in the end, he also has to decide if the most popular girl in school is really right for him, or if the person he really loves has been beside him the whole time.
Stardust (2007) – June 1
Inspired by the Neil Gaiman book of the same name, Stardust takes some of the common ideas associated with fantasy and adventure stories and gives them a fresh perspective. That’s partly because one of the main characters is a star and partly because the casting for the movie is superb with the likes of Michelle Pfieffer and Robert DeNiro not being afraid of getting a little campy.
Tristan (Charlie Cox) sets out to find a piece of a fallen star for the woman (Sienna Miller) he believes himself in love with, only to find that beyond the wall of his hometown, the world has magical properties, and the fallen star is a living being (Claire Danes) who is also wanted by a witch (Michelle Pfeiffer). Both love story and adventure, Stardust is an immersive story in a fantastical world that the audience doesn’t want to leave behind.
Super 8 (2011) – June 1
There’s something magical about groups of kids who stumble onto the extraordinary, especially in stories of the 1980s and ‘90s before technology and social media advanced to the point that it was harder to hide things from the general public. That’s part of the reason series like Stranger Things have done so well with audiences and movies like The Goonies continue to endure. Super 8 captures a lot of the same magic as projects like those.
Set in 1979, Super 8 sees a group of friends filming their own zombie movie, but as they do, a train derails, putting them all in danger. Not only do they catch some of the accident on film, but they discover that the derailment isn’t entirely an accident and that there is a much larger story at play. The movie features fantastic performances from a young cast, who have all gone on to be household names, like Joel Courtney and Elle Fanning.
Criminal Minds: Evolution (2022) – June 6
The newest season of Criminal Minds: Evolution will premiere on June 6 with new episodes following weekly. Unlike the original Criminal Minds series, which typically focused on a weekly mystery with only a handful of seasons featuring longer arcs, the streaming series makes each season one longer mystery with cases of the week filling out the storyline. For Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2, the focus will be on just what the Gold Star referenced at the end of the first season really is.
While fans have been clamoring to see original cast members return for the show, the only confirmed cast so far are the series regulars from season 1. Despite that, Criminal Minds offers an interesting take on crime procedurals as the show strives to dive into the psychology of criminals while still telling fictional mystery stories.
The original
Criminal Minds
series is also available to stream on Paramount+.
Additional content is available to those Paramount+ subscribers who have the Showtime add-on as well. Television shows from Paramount-owned networks continue airing new episodes in June. Once they do, new episodes of the shows will also be available to stream on Paramount+ the day after they air, making June 2024 an even busier month than May for the streamer. Paramount also adds live sporting and news coverage regularly. The content available depends on the playing schedules.
Galaxy Quest
An homage to classic science fiction and its fandom, Galaxy Quest follows a group of actors from a fictional cult classic sci-fi series who are unwittingly embroiled in a real space conflict when aliens who believe the series is real abduct them and ask for their help defeating a tyrant threatening their people. Starring Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, Tony Shalhoub, Daryl Mitchell, and Sam Rockwell, the film features many references and parodies of classic sci-fi films and shows, mainly Star Trek.
