Amanda Frances believes Dorit Kemsley targeted her amid filming on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills season 15 in an effort to steal the spotlight.
While also taking aim at the “wild assumptions” the cast made about her during her debut season, admitting to being confused about her drama with Dorit, 49, and reacting to Erika Jayne, 54, suggesting she was “too young” for the show, Amanda, 41, confirmed which cast member she’s close to, looked back on her cult experience, and reflected on the moment in which she accused Dorit of “verbally [accosting]” her.
“I think she saw an opportunity to have a big spectacle at the dinner party, and I think that might be her M.O.,” Amanda shared during a February 5 interview with Entertainment Tonight.
Although she’s been accused of failing to take accountability for the comments she made about Dorit’s claims against Paul “PK” Kemsley, 58, amid their divorce, Amanda said she did not feel she was attempting to evade the hot seat with her castmates.
“I didn’t feel like I did anything wrong. I have no secrets. I hide nothing. Everything was on the table all season. It’s still on the table. Anything they wanted to ask me, they could’ve asked me. You will see they don’t ask me anything and then make wild assumptions. And that’s my reality in this group of women,” she explained.
Recalling her exit from Rachel Zoe‘s party after a tiff with Dorit, which occurred on the anniversary of the death of one of her twins, Amanda said she was “so confused” and “so conflicted.”
“I’m saying, ‘Today is not the day,’ and then on the other hand, I’m saying, ‘But what are you even talking about?’ There was never anything I was hiding. It was such a small moment at [Kathy Hilton]’s. I was surprised it was coming up again. And then you’ll watch me be surprised at like four dinners of trying to figure out why we’re still talking about this,” she shared.
After not receiving the warmest of welcomes from her co-stars, which made Amanda feel like she was in a “bizarro world” or “alternate universe where nothing made sense,” she was able to build friendships with some.
“Kathy has been a great friend to me. Kathy will call you up and check on you,” Amanda revealed. “[Jennifer Tilly]’s been a gem, a dream; she sent me flowers after the party at Rachel’s that were stunning. And she does still check on me. You’ll see that [Sutton Stracke] and I get closer through the season, which I don’t think is expected, but she’s a friend to me. You’ll see her be a friend to me when we go on our Italy trip.”
Also speaking of Kathy, Amanda said she heard from her castmate after Kathy claimed in an interview that she was annoying in the beginning.
“She texted me and was, when the headline came out, she’s like, I wanted you to see this from me,” Amanda revealed.
As for Erika saying she was too young, Amanda asked, “Too young for what? I’m not too young to start a business, make money, buy this house, have multiple children. What am I too young for?”
Moving on to her experience in a cult, Amanda made it clear that it wasn’t a secret.
“Dorit acts like she’s digging up something that I wrote about and put up there,” she stated.
She then detailed how she wound up in the situation.
“I was young, fresh out of ministry training school, wanting to make a difference, use what I knew and believe and learned to help people. So I took an internship at a church. The longer I was there, the walls closed in, the screws tightened. I had less autonomy. I couldn’t think for myself. They said they would support me getting my education; they would help fund it. They would make me the church psychologist someday. They pulled the rug on all of it. Next thing I know, I’m 21,1,500 miles away from home, no education, working dead-end jobs to help support the church like the entire congregation was,” she revealed.
Then, regarding her exit, Amanda said she made a clean cut without telling anyone.
“It was October 31. It was the last day of my lease, this was 2007, last day of my lease, and I’m like, ‘If I call into work right now and I start packing right now, I could leave,’” she recalled. “I just thought I was out of God’s will … I spent years redefining [my worldview], but had I not redefined my worldview around God and life and money and everything, I wouldn’t have this business.”
“If I hadn’t left the cult, I might not be who I am,” she added.
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills season 15 airs Thursdays at 8/7c on Bravo.
