Andrew Garfield is ready to swing into the Spider-Verse, but when it comes to the Avengers, he’s keeping his cards close to his chest.
During an interview with MTV’s Josh Horowitz, the actor couldn’t help but crack up when asked if he’d be returning as Spider-Man in Avengers: Secret Wars. His reaction said a lot, even if his words didn’t give anything away.
“Is this a tell? You’ll find out,” Garfield joked. “Whatever response I’m having – is it exasperation? – you’ll find out.”
That signature nervous laugh will be familiar to fans who remember Garfield’s No Way Home press tour, where he spent months deflecting questions about his involvement only to show up in one of the biggest Spider-Man moments in movie history. This time, though, he’s a little more transparent about what he wants to do next.
When asked what characters or universes he’d love to cross paths with, Garfield didn’t hesitate to share some fan-favorite picks.
“I really love the Spider-Verse movies. I love [writer-producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller]. Just putting that out there. I love Wolverine, I love Hugh [Jackman]. Tom Hardy is obviously a really formidable actor and what he’s done with Venom is super fun… I’m up for a good time.”
That’s about as close to a public audition as it gets, and it’s hard not to imagine how cool it would be to see Garfield’s Amazing Spider-Man swinging through Beyond the Spider-Verse. The animated multiverse adventure is still one of the most creative playgrounds in superhero storytelling, and Garfield’s version of Peter Parker would fit right in alongside Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy.
As for Avengers: Secret Wars, Garfield’s silence speaks volumes. The film hasn’t started production yet and is slated to hit theaters in 2027, following Avengers: Doomsday in 2026. WIth Marvel Studios cooking up another multiversal crossover, it’s easy to see why fans are hoping for another Spider-Man reunion on an even bigger scale.
In the meantime, Garfield has plenty to keep him busy. He’ll next appear in the Luca Guadagnino-directed After the Hunt, starring alongside Julia Roberts and Ayo Edebiri.
Whether or not he returns to the Marvel multiverse, Andrew Garfield isn’t done having fun with the idea of being Spider-Man, and neither are the fans.
