Atari is making another cartridge-based replica of one of its classic home consoles. Last holiday, retro fans got the Atari 2600+, and this holiday they can add the Atari 7800+ to their collections. Like the 2600+, the 7800+ costs $130 and is slated to arrive on November 29. Along with the console, you’ll get a wireless CX78+ gamepad and a copy of the modern 7800 platformer Bentley Bear’s Crystal Quest to get your collection started. You can preorder the Atari 7800+ at Amazon.
$130
Atari built the 7800+ as a modernized and compact version of the iconic retro console. It connects to your TV via HDMI, plays Atari 7800 and 2600 cartridges, and works with original and third-party Atari cartridges. The included controller charges via USB-C. Bentley Bear’s Crystal Quest, is a sequel to Crystal Castles–making it a nice first game to add to your library.
The Atari 7800+ isn’t the only new addition to the Atari catalog, as the company is releasing two new controllers alongside the console. The CX78+ is included with the Atari 7800+ and is a recreation of the popular two-button controller from the original platform. The CX40+, meanwhile, is Atari’s joystick controller. It originally released last year with the 2600+, but now Atari is adding a wireless model to the lineup.
The controllers work on the Atari 7800+ and 2600+ as well as PC when using a USB-C adapter. If you happen to own the original Atari 7800 or 2600, they’ll work on those, too.
You can preorder the Atari 7800+ Mega Bundle for $170, a $30 discount off its list price of $200. The Mega Bundle comes with the Atari 7800+ and its controller as well as the CX40+ joystick and CX30+ Paddle Pack (two paddles). Overall, you’re getting $70 worth of extra controllers for $40.
Atari also has numerous 7800 and 2600 game cartridges up for preorder:
- Asteroids Deluxe 7800
- Frenzy 7800
- Space Duel 7800
- Caverns of Mars 2600
- M-Network Collection 2600
- Berzerk 7800
- Bounty Bob Strikes Back 7800
- Epyx Game Collection 2600
- RealSports Collection 2600
- Bentley Bear’s Crystal Quest 7800
You can preorder Berserk 7800 at Amazon for $30.
As mentioned, the Atari 7800+ follows the 2023 release of the Atari 2600+. Keep in mind that the 2600+ can also play 7800+ games, so if you already own the 2600+, you don’t need to pick up the 7800+. The Atari 2600+ is readily available at Amazon for $130.

Here’s a look at some of the Atari carts Amazon currently has in stock.
You’ll also find The 400 Mini available for $112.79 (was $120)–though this console is built for emulation whereas the Atari 2600+ and Atari 7800+ are built to play cartridges. Still, it’s a cool option if you’re looking for a different way to play your favorite classic titles. The 400 Mini released earlier this year.
