Things are starting to come into focus for Marvel Studios’ next massive team-up. With reshoots for Avengers: Doomsday lined up for April, early reactions from inside the studio paint a pretty encouraging picture of how the film is shaping up as post-production continues.
Marvel is keeping things quiet this weekend and skipping the Super Bowl, so don’t expect fresh new footage during the Big Game. That move isn’t too surprising, though. It’s barely been a few weeks since the last batch of teasers rolled out alongside Avatar: Fire and Ash, and the studio still has plenty of runway before the marketing machine really kicks into high gear.
The upcoming reshoots are reportedly more about polish than repair work. Some cast members weren’t available during principal photography, and there’s always room to fine-tune the story before cameras start rolling on Avengers: Secret Wars later this summer.
The good news is that Marvel executives are said to be feeling confident about where Doomsday currently stands.
That confidence was echoed by industry insider Jeff Sneider during an episode of The Hot Mic. Sneider shared, “It’s still very much in post. Let me see if I have anything on that. I did check in before the show, just in case. I did get a little something. ‘Avengers’ is in post and they still have a lot of pick-ups to do, but the buzz is good.”
He didn’t stop there, adding, “The buzz is good. You’re going to like it. You’re going to like the movie.”
That some reassuring feedback, especially after months of online reports about the movie entering production without a fully locked script.
Recent social media chatter has suggested the film leans heavily into fan-favorite moments and massive action sequences that aim to top previous MCU spectacles.
That kind of talk can cut both ways, but compared to the more mixed early reactions floating around for other superhero projects, the temperature around Doomsday feels noticeably warmer right now.
As for when we’ll actually see more from the movie, May is looking like a strong possibility. With Avengers: Doomsday sitting out the Super Bowl, the next trailer could arrive alongside The Mandalorian and Grogu. There’s also a chance Marvel does something fun in March to mark the anniversary of last year’s cast reveal.
The film is being directed by Joe Russo and Anthony Russo, who are also returning for Avengers: Secret Wars. The script comes from Stephen McFeely, continuing his long-running collaboration with the Russos on the Avengers and Captain America films.
Michael Waldron, who worked on Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, has also been brought in to help shape the story.
Avengers: Doomsday is currently set to hit theaters on December 18, with Avengers: Secret Wars following on December 17, 2027.
