Searchlight Pictures’ acclaimed mockumentary comedy starring Ayo Edebiri and Ben Platt has finally found a new streaming home, over three years after it was first released in theaters. Beginning today, Edebiri and Platt’s 2023 movie Theater Camp is now available to stream on Hulu.
What do we know about Ayo Edebiri’s Theater Camp movie?
Theater Camp was directed by Molly Gordon and Nick Lieberman, which served as their feature directorial debuts. They also co-wrote the screenplay with Platt and Noah Galvin. The Booksmart star also starred as Rebecca-Diane in the film alongside Galvin as Glenn, Platt as Amos, Edebiri as Janet, Tatro as Troy, Patti Harrison as Caroline, Nathan Lee Graham as Clive, Owen Thiele as Gigi, Caroline Aaron as Rita, and Amy Sedaris as Joan. After the 2023 movie, Gordon reunited with Edebiri in Hulu’s acclaimed comedy-drama show The Bear.
“It follows Amos and Rebecca-Diane – lifelong best friends and drama instructors at a rundown camp in upstate New York,” reads the synopsis. “When clueless tech-bro Troy arrives to run the property — into the ground — Amos, Rebecca-Diane and production manager Glenn band together with the staff and young students, staging a masterpiece to keep their beloved summer camp afloat.”
The film had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, where it won the U.S. Dramatic Special Jury Award for Ensemble. Since its 2023 debut, it has maintained its Certified Fresh score of 86% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 181 reviews. The movie was produced by Galvin, Gordon, Lieberman, Platt, Will Ferrell, Erik Feig, Samie Kim Falvey, Julia Hammer, Ryan Heller, Maria Zuckerman, and Jessica Elbaum.
